- The Community liaison works to establish communication, relationships, and maintain mutual understanding among the school, community and home.
- Conducts meetings with community members and interprets and explains the various provisions of the education program.
- Meets with civic groups and parent groups (PAC) helps resolve problems early on by making referrals to appropriate persons in order to have the problem corrected.
- Conducts various workshops for members of the community.
- Assists in the interpretation of school and programs policies, regulations or activities to the students and their parents.
- Serves as liaison between the community and the Superintendent and with social agencies committed to the welfare of the student.
- Communicate information including concerns from the community to the Superintendent.
- Initiates and responds to phone calls, emails, and written correspondence related to community involvement.
- Communicates important school related news with community through various forums.
- Provides information to members of the community that include educational opportunities and resources in their areas and applicable local and state policies that will influence their education system.
- Creates opportunities to involve all community members in areas of concern.
- Assists in mobilizing community resources in support of projects and achievement of educational objectives.
- Establish end maintain friendly, cooperative and effective working relationships with all persons contacted in their course of work.
- Communiate and encourage parents to observe and/or assist the teachers in the classroom.
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with diverse communities in a public education program or comparable private sector program
- Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across different levels of an organization.
- Ability to think creatively and develop innovative strategies for community engagement
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on urgency.

SALARY: $60,000 – $65,000
A Community Liaison will be a key member of the Superintendent of School’s staff. The Community liaison works to bridge the communication between school and home by helping community members get the information, help and support they need to ensure their child’s academic and social success in school. The role of the Community Liaison is part of a comprehensive system effort to encourage families to support school s and to lower existing barriers to community participation.

This is a twelve (12) month position affiliated with AFSCME Local 1522.
