      Tāmaki Makaurau is New Zealand's largest, fastest growing and most culturally diverse city. Due to its location and particular characteristics, the city has many enviable natural features from the golden sands of the east coast, to the rainforests and black volcanic sands of the west. These same characteristics also make the region susceptible to a number of hazards ranging from infrequent events such as volcanic eruptions and tsunami, to more regular events such as flooding, storms and the effects of climate change.

      He angitūtanga: The opportunity

      As the Community Planning and Readiness Manager for Auckland Emergency Management, you will lead a team of seven Senior Planning Advisors to develop and implement comprehensive emergency response plans in coordination with local boards and communities.

      This role is critical in ensuring that Auckland's diverse communities are well-prepared for a wide range of emergencies, including natural disasters, pandemics, and crisis situations.

      This role will also be responsible for conducting risk assessments, overseeing plan implementation, provide training, and continuously evaluate and improve emergency preparedness efforts.

      This position also includes the CIMS Function Manager role as required in activation of an emergency response and carries the responsibilities as defined in the CDEM Act 2002

      You will be an experienced people leader, a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and a strong advocate for community focused planning. With a strong understanding of emergency management principles, risk assessment methodologies, and disaster response strategies.

      Knowledge of the Auckland region's geography, demographics, and cultural nuances, with an emphasis on integrating this knowledge into emergency plans is required.
