      Community Relations Advisor

      PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We are seeking a talented Community Relations Advisor to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. This role would be located in our Toledo Refinery in Oregon OH.

      The Community Relations Advisor establishes and maintains positive relationships with community members, nonprofit organizations, government officials and fellow employees to cultivate a favorable operating climate for the organization. This position is also responsible for managing the philanthropy efforts and oversite of the charitable giving, employee engagement, and external communication budget. Assists with Human Resources programs and initiatives as needed including crafting HR-related messages. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager. It will work closely with the Refinery Leadership Team and Midwest Government Relations Director in the development of employee engagement, media relations, and community relations strategies that drives company initiatives and awareness.

      Principle Responsibilities:

      Community Relations

      • Create and maintain positive relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and governmental organizations.
      • Actively participates in and/or pursues board-level positions on community non-profit and business organizations.
      • Acts as the primary contact for all community concerns.
      • Establish a presence and lasting connections “in the community”.
      • Manages community relations programs aligned closely with company strategies through programs including but not limited to military, youth, technology, education, conservation, diversity and inclusion.
      • Determine what “the public” knows or feels about and needs from the Refinery. Provide “the public” with appropriate information and understanding of the Refinery.
      • Develop partnership with local schools, groups, foundations, and associations. Work to create and/or sponsor programs with tangible and measurable benefits to the community.
      • Implements corporate giving strategy and develops strategic community partnerships in the local region.
      • Manages philanthropy efforts and charitable giving activities, including oversight of budget and tracking, as well as, coordinating all aspects of the Refinery’s annual charitable golf tournament.
      • Manage the Refinery’s Community Advisory Panel, facilitator, membership, meetings and topics, and related activities.
      • Develop policies and procedures for department to standardize practices – logo, donations, tours, etc.
      • Works closely with PBF Midwest Government Relations Director on local issues and concerns that affect the Refinery and the public.

      Employee Engagement/Internal Communications

      • Partner with the Employee Activities Committee to develop and facilitate the implementation of programs and strategies to maintain the existing culture of exceptional employee engagement. Assists with the planning, content and execution of the company’s employee events.
      • Manage and coordinate the production of the quarterly newsletter (oversee editorial summary, production schedule, article creation, layout, proofreading, printing, and distribution).
      • Manages scheduling, tracking, and communications around internal learning/social/engagement events including celebrations, town halls.
      • Assist Management with development of presentations and speeches, media coaching, and enhancement of verbal and written communication skills.
      • Coordinate and manage the implementation of other effective communication tactics (i.e., surveys, letters, bulletin board and email postings, periodic newsletter inserts) to ensure continue understanding and cooperation with internal audiences.
      • Lead, coordinate and support employee recognition activities/ programs.
      • Support HR activities as needed.

      Media Relations

      • Lead spokesperson for the refinery on majority of occasions and issues.
      • Works closely with Midwest GRD on a comprehensive media strategy to promote the business objectives of the facility and company.
      • Crisis Communications- Advise and assist Refinery Leadership Team with the development of media statements, distribution of fact sheets, Community Line, and other communication tools in the event of an incident.
      • Create content for press releases of newsworthy events within the Refinery or involving Refinery employees, byline articles and keynote presentations. Manage media inquiries and interview requests.
      • Track all press, social and blog placements and measure and report campaign effectiveness.
      • Monitor all media outlets to gauge company’s status through Reputation Management.
      • Provide after-hour support via participation in the Emergency Command Center (on-call duties).
      • Manage and update the refinery web page and Facebook page.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Job Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism, or related field required.
      • 8 years’ experience in community relations, media relations, or public affairs required.
      • Competent in social media, desktop publishing and printing required.
      • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
      • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships at all levels of the organization.
      • Strong planning and organizational skills.
