      Position Summary

      The Community Standards Officer I will conduct vehicle, foot, and bicycle patrols of assigned areas ensuring compliance with the City’s parking, noise, sign and highway obstruction bylaws.

      Key Duties and Responsibilities

      • Conduct patrols throughout the municipality to assess parking and enforce parking by-law infractions proactively
      • Provide enforcement response to parking complaints and parking conflicts with roads operations and issue associated parking penalty notices
      • Engage in awareness and education discussions with the public to achieve compliance with parking regulations and deter parking infractions
      • Report parking signage issues for inspection review and resolution
      • Record and document information and evidence (including photographic) associated with parking penalty notices and inspections related to parking complaints
      • Maintain parking control vehicles as required including bringing the vehicle in for repairs, oil changes, and cleaning, completing vehicle checks and use logs
      • Present evidence in support of parking, noise, and sign penalty notices at Administrative Monetary Penalty System hearings
      • Issuance of Provincial Offences Tickets
      • Provide enforcement support outside of regular business hours for the parks use, noise, sign and highway obstruction by-laws.
      • Other duties as assigned

      Education and Experience

      • Diploma in Police Foundations or related discipline
      • MLEO or OAPSO Certification, considered an asset
      • 3 years' experience in enforcement or similar role

      Required Skills/Knowledge

      • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
      • Ability to work independently, combined with well-developed organization and time management skills and the ability to deal effectively with tact, courtesy, discretion and diplomacy with all levels of staff and the public
      • Ability to independently resolve problems and issues under minimal supervision
      • Knowledge of parking by-laws
      • Physically capable of performing duties under adverse conditions
      • Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
      • Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
      • Regular walking and bending required
      • Regularly works rotating shifts, and exposure to outdoor conditions
      • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
