      Primary accountabilities:

      • Leads the overall philosophy, direction, management, and administration of Essential’s compensation programs including base compensation and incentive programs, with a focus on rewarding excellence in performance.
      • Oversees the payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely payments to employees, managing audit controls, and ensuring effective and efficient operations, policies and procedures.
      • Manages the design, implementation and administration of executive compensation programs for key executives.
      • Manages the compensation and payroll teams. Interviews, hires, sets high performance standards and manages performance in accordance with all applicable HR policies and procedures. Creates an energized work environment, fostering an atmosphere that enables employee trust and engagement. Inspires confidence and motivates others to perform at their best. Develops and coaches staff while effectively addressing performance issues
      • Oversees Essential’s compensation components including job families and salary structures that drive consistency in market analysis, merit, and variable pay processes.
      • Leads the analysis on proxy and survey data, realized pay, and unvested equity. Identifies trends in the market; owns and drives material preparation for the CHRO and the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors.
      • Identifies and tracks insights from key competitors, trends and incorporates those into the broader competitive insights.
      • Provides leadership and oversees annual implementation and administration of compensation programs and systems including merit, market and equity analysis, recommendations and adjustments, short- and long-term incentive compensation. Ensures data integrity within data management and reporting.
      • Acts as the business lead to request, review and approve technological enhancements and systems to ensure automation and controls are effective for the compensation and payroll processes.
      • Educates and coaches management regarding compensation processes, job family structures, market analysis, job evaluations, merit and bonus practices. Develops key employee messaging on compensation topics
      • Creates and maintains strong partnerships across the company to ensure Essential has a comprehensive complete total rewards package to address talent attraction, retention and motivation
      • In collaboration with Legal, Accounting, Tax, Internal Audit and third-party administrators, ensures accurate reporting, budgeting and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations regarding compensation and related issues
      • Leads other tasks or projects as assigned

      Required Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications

      • A minimum of 10 years of diverse compensation experience with a track record of progressive responsibility managing the compensation function as it relates to strategy and design. Experience should include design and management of base salary structures, short-term and long-term incentive programs, competitive market analysis, forecasting trends, costs and modeling outcomes
      • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, business, finance, economics, or related disciplines required. An MS or MBA degree is highly desirable.
      • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) credential preferred

      WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

      • Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
      • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
      • Operate standard office equipment.
      • Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents (if applicable)
