Work hard, have fun, and make history working with Amazon’s International Legal team. We are looking for someone who can navigate across complex product regulations in South Africa, and then develop and implement related compliance actions. This position requires partnering with legal, compliance and business teams to develop, implement and continuously improve compliance initiatives using external and internal technology and tools. There is a significant project management component to this role.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will need to research a wide variety of laws, including, product compliance and safety regulations, marketing, trade and consumer protection and implement related compliance initiatives. This will involve providing high quality written legal guidance (in English) and independent counseling of business teams across all levels. This is a high judgment position that requires nimbleness and insistence upon very high standards. The ability to effectively communicate is essential, both verbally and in writing. The role will require that you be self-motivated to learn compliance operations and technology and will involve both independent and team work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing.
The person in this role will also be responsible for:
• Monitoring product regulatory, marketing, trade and consumer protection developments
• Partnering with regulators and responding to their inquiries
• Engaging with business and compliance teams to help them raise the bar on compliance
• Flexible work schedule to accommodate international time zones.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Cape Town, ZAF· Either 5+ years of prior work experience in a related area OR 2+ years of prior work experience and an L.L.B. or another equivalent international law degree
· Undergraduate university law degree
· Experience conducting legal research and preparing related written guidance
· Ability to review sensitive content and make appropriate policy recommendations
· Ability to work autonomously and effectively identify and innovate optimal solutions to a broad range of complex issues
· Great organizational and research skills with exceptional follow-through and attention to detail · Prior experience with project management
· Prior experience in regulatory compliance
