      An Exciting opportunity has arisen for a Component Design Engineer under the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function, based in Derby. You will be joining a leading design team with an aspiration to gain an accelerated learning opportunity in Technical and Functional Leadership.

      What you will be doing.

      In this role you will deliver design solutions for component(s), complex assemblies and whole engines in consideration of safety, manufacturing capability, product physical and functional robustness. Design solutions also should address Unit Cost, Lifecycle Cost, Weight, Maintainability, Repair.

      • Create and use automated and integrated tool sets. When repeat design is anticipated, create automated work flows to enable the design of the component utilising house style, standard features, and standard assessments to define the optimum design as part of automated MBD, manufacture and measurement definitions.

      • Elimination of Non-Conformance/Zero Defects/Delivery of Producibility within a Manufacturing Environment. This will be through analysing customer and programme requirements, incorporation of manufacturing and measurement process capability into the design solution rationale (DCM) and associated manufacturing definition. Establish and adoption of lean principles like standardisation/house style to achieve deterministic solutions and producible components in a repeatable fashion. Improvements to design methods, rules and tools to achieve robustness. Application of Robust Design, Systems Engineering, (xFMEA) and APQP to ensure right first time can be achieved.

      • Quality Assurance through checking of design documents, models, drawings in accordance with RRMS technical requirements and proactive Zero Defects approaches.

      • For higher graded staff, coaching, approvals and team leading/technical leading more junior team members and support PDRs, Promotional boarding and leadership development.

      • Bachelor's degree or higher with experience with mechanical design content - where the candidate does not hold a degree, relevant experience will be accepted.

      • Previous experience with generic design processes as well as component specific design guidance and design methods and practices, preference with FMEA and APQP knowledge.

      • Appreciation of gas turbine operation and System/Component Design concepts are advantageous.

      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that will allow you to integrate with all people throughout the organisation, at all levels, to ensure the effective resolution of design issues.
