      Title: Computer Instructor

      Department: Social Services

      FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

      Reports To: Project Assistant

      Summary: Responsible for teaching seniors to use computers, smart devices, and the Internet at SF Connected Technology Labs throughout San Francisco and through virtual programming.

      Essential Functions

      • Conducts training and workshops for seniors to learn to use computers, smart devices, and the Internet safely; answers computer and technology-related questions.
      • Conducts classroom-style lectures with groups of students as needed.
      • Prepares and maintains lab area, equipment, materials for training and workshops, and lab or virtual programming preparation.
      • Operates and maintains audiovisual equipment; maintains computers in the lab; and assists students with using hardware and software.
      • Maintains training and workshop schedules and attendance records.
      • Assists with client outreach to meet the program's goals.
      • Maintains assigned client list for submittal to the clientele database.
      • Attends meetings and training as assigned.
      • Responds to and acknowledges emails and notices promptly.
      • Participates in the Quality Assurance protocols as directed.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      • Must have a high school diploma; teaching and training experience preferred.
      • Current working knowledge of PC technology/equipment, smartphones, tablet computers, MS Office software applications, the Internet, online communication, and social media platforms.
      • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with older adults and individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to effectively instruct senior learners on basic computer use and online programs using PC platforms or other personal computing devices.
      • Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin), Russian, or Spanish is preferred.
      • Must be available to work at least three days a week.
      • Must be self-motivated, patient, detail-oriented, and able to follow through.
      • Must be able to travel via public transportation or personal/department vehicle to perform job duties. If driving, must have and maintain a valid CA driver license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.
