      Overview

      Milbank LLP is seeking a dynamic, highly organized, and motivated individual for the role of Analyst in the Conflicts Department, supporting the firm globally, and working alongside the Legal Risk & Compliance team. This is an exciting opportunity to assist attorneys with their compliance duties by analyzing data associated with potential new business and new employees, while contributing to the success of the Firm. The Analyst will work closely with Conflicts Attorneys, members of the Office of the General Counsel, the Legal Risk and Compliance team, the Conflicts Team, and various other firm administrative departments to identify possible ethical and business-related conflicts of interest while assisting in the processing of new business intake forms to ensure they meet Firm policies and business requirements.

      Please note this position can be based in any of the following locations and is eligible for fully remote work or hybrid work schedule: Eligible candidates must reside in states Milbank has a legal entity (NY Tri-state area (NY, NJ or CT), CA, DC Metro area (DC, VA, MD) Kansas City or Missouri. Please note the office hours will be based on West Coast time.

      Responsibilities

      • Respond to calls, emails, and workflow requests from firm attorneys, paralegals, and legal secretaries regarding the new business intake process.
      • Process requests for conflicts searches, perform necessary research, and prepare and distribute clearance reports.
      • Work with automated conflict checking systems and/or corporate research databases in a law firm environment, including Intapp Open, Intapp Walls, S&P Capital IQ, LexisNexis, and LSEG World Check.
      • Review and analyze new business intake forms for accuracy, facilitate any changes with requesting partner and submitter, and process for client matter opening.
      • Process and maintenance of new business documentation, such as Outside Counsel Guidelines, Engagement Letters, and Waiver letters, including retrieving appropriate approvals for non-standard language and storing in appropriate database.
      • Maintain access to Document Management System and Time Entry System via the use of Intapp Walls.
      • Perform regular maintenance of all associated databases and applications in accordance with department and firm policies.
      • Working knowledge of the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct pertaining to business intake; familiarity with rules in jurisdictions where the Firm has an office is preferred.
      • General knowledge of International Anti-Money Laundering and Market Abuse Regulations a plus.
      • Familiarity with corporate structure/affiliations and governance models in a global environment.
      • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
      • Experience in Legal Risk and Compliance (not a requirement).

      Salary Range $70K-$80K DOE

      Qualifications

      The ideal individual will have a collaborative mindset, an acute attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, be comfortable working in databases and various legal technology platforms, a strong sense of personal accountability for the success of the team and the Firm; possess an understanding of law firm risk and its mitigation and understand the meaning of exceptional customer service. This position will require critical thinking, strong judgment and exceptional decision-making skills. A desire to work in a flexible environment with an ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities is a must. The candidate must interact well with people at all levels with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

      • Three to four years of experience in risk, research, conflicts searching, or related experience is preferred.
      • A bachelor’s or graduate degree is required.
      • Must be available for occasional overtime during evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
      • Experience with legal technology platforms such as Intapp Open or similar conflicts systems a plus.
