      WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

      The Conservation Coordinator provides administrative and other general assistance to Conservation Program staff working toward the achievement of conservation, protection, stewardship, and science goals. The specific responsibilities of the Conservation Coordinator are as follows:

      • Provide general administrative support to Conservation Program staff, including the following: managing fleet vehicles, preparing presentations and reports, organizing meetings or events, processing invoices, ordering materials and equipment, assisting with grant applications, and handling miscellaneous office tasks and errands.
      • Support stewardship of Nature Conservancy preserves by:
        • keeping electronic and manual files
        • maintaining databases (specifically Landscape and BBCRM)
        • managing property tax compliance
        • administering hunting leases on preserves
        • coordinating with staff in satellite offices with regards to stewardship of lands
        • handling miscellaneous reporting to external organizations and agencies
      • Stewarding TNC's landholdings in the Piedmont region by:
        • conducting annual monitoring of four conservation easements and one preserve
        • guiding management activities on TNC's Black Ankle Bog Preserve
        • participating in meetings of regional conservation partnerships
      • Supporting land protection projects by:
        • assisting with grant proposals and award contracts
        • helping with real estate due diligence
        • providing GIS data or maps
      • Supporting science activities by:
        • coordinating meetings and tasks of the NCBU Science Team
        • processing research permits and approvals for other uses of preserves
        • assisting with data collection and analysis, preparation of reports or presentations, and other tasks
      • Shares responsibility for answering office's main phone line. Responds to general phone calls, especially inquiries from potential land donors. Drafts routine business correspondence.
      • Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns.

      This position is full-time and is based in Durham, North Carolina. Work is primarily in an office or home office setting but does involve occasional exposure to outdoor settings and minor physical exertion. The Conservation Coordinator may sometimes work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program.

      The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and organization skills and experience coordinating multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail. Candidates must be located in or near Durham, North Carolina if hired, and will have the option to work at TNC's Durham office, from their home office, or in a hybrid arrangement, subject to approval by the supervisor. This position is not eligible for relocation or immigration assistance.

      WHAT YOU'LL BRING

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
      • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
      • Experience handling standard business communications.


      DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
      • 2-4 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources and work independently.
      • Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files.
      • Experience utilizing databases for data entry and report production preferred.
      • Experience using GIS preferred.
      • Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability.
      • Ability to plan and administer meetings and other events or activities.

      Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

      SALARY INFORMATION

      The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $29 - $31 per hour for 35 hours a week. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
