Position: Construction Estimator
Work location: Columbia, Maryland
Wage: $100,000 - $135,000 / per year*
Job Duties:
Prepare cost estimates for construction projects to aid management in bidding on or determining price of product or service.Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages. Utilize knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost. Assist with Request for Proposal Responses (RFP’s) and the formal presentation for a project. Contact suppliers and vendors to discuss various requests and due dates and handle subcontractor requests. Coordinate activities of the team from bid to proposal. Prepare and distribute time-sensitive materials. Provide a consistent customer service experience with subcontractors and vendors. Track and update vendor information and manage local vendor database. Prepare detailed estimate updates, as the design evolves, including preparing variance summaries between estimates. Write and negotiate subcontracts. Actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with the project team and design team.
Must be available to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites within commuting distance to DPR’s Columbia, Maryland office.
Minimum education/experience requirements: Master’s degree in Construction Management, Mathematics, Construction/Civil Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or in a construction estimator-related occupation.

Skill Requirements:
Position requires at least 3 years of experience in each of the following skills:
1. Prepare detailed cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility documentation, using tools such as, Cost-X, MC2A, or Beck Destini, and provide variance summaries between different estimate stages.
2. Prepare and distribute detailed bid packages, including instructions to bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive documentation to ensure accurate and competitive bids using ITB platforms SmartBid or Building Connected.
3. Use understanding of unit costs and factors which impact costs to ensure accurate and realistic construction project budget and financial planning.
4. Manage time-sensitive materials and deadlines effectively for construction projects, ensuring timely completion of estimates, proposals, and bid packages.
5. Collaborate with project teams, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes and adherence to project timelines and budgets.Position also requires at least 2 years of experience in each of the following skills:
6. Participate in Value Engineering sessions, working with project and design teams to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining project quality and functionality
7. Manage subcontractor and vendor relationships, including contacting suppliers for requests and due dates, handling subcontractor requests, and maintaining an up-to-date local vendor database.
