      Job summary

      United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust have a vacancy for a full time Consultant in General Anaesthesia. The post will be based at Grantham & District Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to work across all Hospital Sites. The Department of Anaesthesia at ULTH is accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

      Part time hours will be considered and, if appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed and negotiated on an individual basis.

      Main duties of the job

      The Department of Anaesthesia is a GIRFT accredited elective hub. We provide anaesthetic service for our high volume and low risk cases involving orthopaedic, general surgery, urology, gynaecology, ENT, maxillofacial surgeries.

      We are involved in giving regional anaesthesia for a range of lower limb and upper limb arthroplasties, delivering teaching on regional anaesthetic techniques for trainees visiting us from our main site.

      Our aim is to proceed with day case surgeries, including day case lower limb arthroplasties.

      We have Level 1 postoperative care available on the surgical wards.

      Our on call service, at a frequency of 1:7 provides for unstable patients on medical wards, UTC and surgical wards, in terms of stabilization and transfer to level 2 or 3 care facilities.

      We work closely with the regional transfer services in delivering safe transfer to our patients.

      The Department compromises of 7 Consultant and 7 Speciality Doctors in Anaesthesia with 2 or 3 FY1 colleagues on Anaesthetic placements.

      About us

      Grantham Hospital has approximately 213 staffed in-patient beds offering services in our newly established UTC, General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Integrated Medicine services. In addition there is an ambulatory care paediatric service provided on site, Monday to Friday, 1000 - 1900 hours. Community Midwifery is provided in the locality as well as a 'low risk' midwifery led service. Antenatal, Postnatal, Gynaecology Outpatients and Day Case services are offered at Grantham.

      In addition, there are 18 day case beds which offer services in Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology and ENT.
