Job summary
We are delighted to offer this opportunity to join the Cardiology Department at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board as a Consultant Cardiologist.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our passionate and enthusiastic team and to play a key role in developing and improving the provision of cardiac services based at the Prince Charles Hospital.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care, will be required to adhere to the Trust's policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date. Applicants wishing to apply for this post should possess the MRCP or equivalent, be GMC-registered with a license to practice and hold specialist registration in Cardiovascular Medicine or be within six months of specialist registration at the interview date.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Directorate of Medicine in providing a specialist cardiology service. There will be an expectation to manage patients allocated to cardiology as part of the acute medical take as well as taking referrals and giving advice to physician colleagues in the care of cardiac patients. As such the post holder will be expected to work closely with colleagues in the cardiology department to develop a consistent, multi-disciplinary approach to the care for patients with cardiac conditions throughout the Directorate of Medicine and the Health Board.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties of the Post
The consultant job plan will include dedicated sessions for general and specialist complex pacing sessions, outpatient clinics and other cardiology related activity within the HB. They will work with a team of 4 other existing consultant cardiologists at PCH to support one general cardiology firm with appropriate junior medical staff support. PCH is actively looking to expand its range of services and is interested in candidates who may already have, or who are looking to develop, additional sub-specialist skills.
The working timetable will involve 2 weeks in 10 of cardiology ward work, during which time the appointee will be the Consultant responsible for the care of cardiology in-patients, and will provide a referral and advice service for acute physicians and other specialities (total approximately 25 patients). For another 2 weeks in 10 the appointee will be the Consultant responsible for the care of GIM inpatients on the cardiology ward (part of ward based working approach) as well as undertaking some elective cardiology work. The other 6 weeks in 10 will entirely involve outpatient and elective cardiology work. During the off-ward week the successful candidate will be undertaking a weekly average of 1-2 cardiology clinics and 2-3 sessions of speciality-based work (elective and acute). Travelling as necessary between hospitals/clinics will be required to undertake such duties. Outpatient workload (in line with national guidance) is set at 6 new patients or 12 follow-up patients per post-MRCP Doctor.
The successful candidate will be on the GIM on-call rota which currently is 1:16 weekdays and 1:12 weekends. Weekday on calls require an evening ward round (5pm-9pm) but not a morning ward round (which is covered by acute care physicians except for Saturday morning). Weekend on calls require both morning and evening ward rounds. This time commitment is recognised in the job plan. The on-call also qualifies for time in lieu.
