      Job summary

      Consultant in General Surgery interest Abdominal wall Reconstruction

      As part of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust's commitment to meeting the Health care needs of the local population, applications are invited for the posts of General Surgeon at Lincoln County Hospital.

      The post is a 10 PA basic per week plus additional programmed activities by separate negotiation

      The appointees will make up a team of 11 Consultant General Surgeons and other surgical colleagues. The appointees will be expected, in conjunction with his/her colleagues, to provide comprehensive general surgical services to Lincoln and Associated Hospitals, population 210,000.

      Main duties of the job

      Work flexibly to provide a sub-specialty service in General Surgery and support theatre lists, clinics and endoscopy sessions that are vacant while other Consultants are on-call.

      • Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service.
      • Take part in 1:8 weekly (week day) Consultant rota for emergency duties and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
      • Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of junior medical staff. To be involved in the education of nursing staff, General Practitioners and other clinical professions. To attend regularly surgical sub-directorate team meetings.
      • Have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
      • Take part in team, department, regional and national audits.
      • Be involved in research where appropriate.
      • Participate in the management of the surgical service.

      Essential

      • Full GMC registration
      • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the speciality
      • Experience in Emergency General Surgery

      Desirable

      • FRCS
      • Fellowship in abdominal reconstruction
      • Holds CCT/ CESR

      Skills

      Essential

      • Ability to teach and work with a multi-disciplinary team
      • Understanding of the needs of Trainees Willingness to work as a member of the team and to share administrative responsibilities
      • Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance

      Desirable

      • Demonstration of use of different techniques of abdominal wall reconstruction as evidenced by logbook
      • Willingness to organise relevant audit activities

      • Extensive experience in abdominal wall reconstruction
      • Experience in performing lower GI endoscopies
