      Job summary

      We are an seeking enthusiastic Haematologist to join our team at Torbay. This role is part of our succession plan and future proofing of the Haematology service.

      We are ideally looking for a general Haematologist who works well in a team, with an interest in haematological malignancy

      The successful applicants will join our existing consultants based at Torbay

      Dr Heather Eve Malignant haematology - myeloma lead

      Dr Barry Jackson Clinical service lead, general haematology, thrombosis and haemostasis & paediatrics

      Dr Patrick Roberts Non-malignant haematology and CML. Transfusion lead

      Dr Deborah Turner Malignant haematology - lymphoma lead

      MDT lead, clinical trials lead.

      Dr Rui Zhao Malignant haematology - acute leukaemia lead

      Dr Nwe Oo Thrombosis & haemostasis, laboratory lead

      Main duties of the job

      To provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the hospital.

      About us

      Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an Integrated Care Organisation providing acute health care services from Torbay Hospital, community health services and adult social care. The Trust runs Torbay Hospital as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham. We also provide health and social care to the local population

      Torbay Hospital is a medium-sized, progressive and innovative District General Hospital providing acute services to South Devon with a 10-bedded Critical Care Unit, six general theatres, three orthopaedic theatres and a day surgery unit. We provide services in most specialties within Torbay but have close working relationships with Royal Devon University Healthcare (Exeter and North Devon) and University Hospitals Plymouth.

      We have around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 375,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.

      Qualifications and training

      Essential

      • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
      • If an applicant is UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT oMRCP (or equivalent training and experience) oFRCPath (or equivalent training and experience)
