- To provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the hospital.
- To be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring our standard to deliver safe quality and performance are delivered and sustained.
- To provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level and supervised and train the juniors and specialty doctors. To be proactive the in the departments clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.
- To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address any issues arising that may affect the services.
- To participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.

- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- If an applicant is UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT oMRCP (or equivalent training and experience) oFRCPath (or equivalent training and experience)

- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to supervise multi-disciplinary team
- Proven ability to teach clinical skills within multi-disciplinary teams applying evidence based knowledge
- Ability to apply research outcome to clinical problems
- A special interest to complement other Consultant colleagues e.g. lymphoma, transplantation
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
- Research experience
- Publications in refereed journals
- Active interest in IT
- Experience of audit and management
- Honesty and reliability
- Willingness to work flexibly according to the needs of the service, observing National, Trust and Departmental guidelines
- Ability to work in a team
- Enquiring, critical, approach to work
- Caring attitude to patients
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other professional staff and agencies
- Commitment to Continuing Medical Education
- Physically capable of fulfilling the role as presented

Job summary
We are an seeking enthusiastic Haematologist to join our team at Torbay. This role is part of our succession plan and future proofing of the Haematology service.
We are ideally looking for a general Haematologist who works well in a team, with an interest in haematological malignancy
The successful applicants will join our existing consultants based at Torbay
Dr Heather Eve Malignant haematology - myeloma lead
Dr Barry Jackson Clinical service lead, general haematology, thrombosis and haemostasis & paediatrics
Dr Patrick Roberts Non-malignant haematology and CML. Transfusion lead
Dr Deborah Turner Malignant haematology - lymphoma lead
MDT lead, clinical trials lead.
Dr Rui Zhao Malignant haematology - acute leukaemia lead
Dr Nwe Oo Thrombosis & haemostasis, laboratory lead

We have around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 375,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.
