We are seeking an exceptional Consultant in Child and Adolescent Mental Health to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team at the Osborn Centre in Fareham.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a committed and compassionate psychiatrist to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people experiencing complex mental health challenges. You will work within a supportive environment, offering clinical leadership and expertise across a broad spectrum of conditions and collaborating closely with professionals from health, education, and social care sectors.

The post is based within Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust--an ambitious, integrated organisation at the forefront of delivering high-quality care across mental health, learning disabilities, and community services.

With a focus on innovation, staff development, and collaborative working, we offer not only a chance to shape care pathways but also comprehensive support for your career progression through our mentoring schemes, CPD opportunities, and new consultant development programme.

      Main duties of the job

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership and direct care to young people up to age 18 with a range of mental health disorders. You will manage complex cases, oversee psychiatric assessments and medication planning, and guide risk assessments. Working alongside a well-established MDT--including psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, and social work--you will ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.

You will actively contribute to service development, clinical governance, supervision of junior doctors and trainees, and liaise closely with partner agencies. Key qualities include excellent clinical acumen, collaborative leadership, strong communication skills, and a commitment to professional development.

You will also support training and teaching across the division, with opportunities to engage in research and quality improvement projects. This post includes 8 Programmed Activities (6 DCC, 2 SPA), and flexible working is welcomed.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
