Job summary
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) are working together in partnership to develop an integrated Haematology service delivering Consultant-led care across the two sites, serving a joint population of approximately 500,000.
We are currently looking to appoint two Consultants into the Haematology partnership to join the team initially on the Barnsley District General Hospital site. We are committed to move to a combined Inpatient model to create a single-site Inpatient facility at the Rotherham site, serving a combined population of approximately 500,000. Combining services across the two sites will lead to greater resilience in delivering emerging therapies such as Bi-specifics, with scope for sub-speciality interest development.
If you are a dynamic, enthusiastic and passionate Haematologist looking to work in an expanding service get in touch to see what this job can offer you
For further information, please contact in the first instance Dr Arun Alfred, Clinical Lead Consultant telephone: - 01709307119 / 7112 email: arunalfred@nhs.net
Main duties of the job
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a District General Hospital serving a local population of 250,000 people, offering level 2a Haematology Services (with the exception of intensive AML/ALL type treatments). The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust currently delivers level 2b care including intensive chemotherapy for AML and refractory lymphoma. Rotherham has an established home chemotherapy service with ambitions to expand this across the region. It also offers a supra-regional ECP service treating patients with GvHD and Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma. Both Barnsley and Rotherham contribute to the South Yorkshire regional MDT and Laboratory services have full national accreditation. Our nearest tertiary referral centre is only 10 miles away in Sheffield, and the region enjoys excellent collaborative working relationships. We would welcome applications from candidates who have particular subspecialty interests and are happy to accommodate and develop sub-specialty roles. There will be mentorship provided from senior member(s) of the team within the department depending on the successful candidates needs. The combined model will also enable to develop other interests including medical education roles, mentorship and leadership opportunities across both sites.
About us
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is a combined acute and community provider delivering a range of health care services to people in Rotherham and across South Yorkshire.
We are ambitious about our future and the part we will play in meeting the health and social care needs of the local community and the wider region. Our innovative and forward thinking approach means we are at the forefront of care delivery for people at home, in the community and in hospital.
At the heart of the Trust are more than 4,500 members of staff who are working out of the main Rotherham Hospital site and a number of community locations. A range of specialist services are delivered across the South Yorkshire region and nationally.
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is committed to diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from everyone. The Trust seeks to establish a workforce as diverse as the population it serves. We will consider applications to work flexibly. If you are disabled and require reasonable adjustments to the application process, please contact the Medical Recruitment Team to discuss.
All Consultant interviews will be performed in person (face to face). If there are any exceptional circumstances as to why a candidate cannot attend in person then a possible virtual interview will be considered by the Executive panel but is not guaranteed.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
