      SUBSTANTIVE CONSULTANT IN PALLIATIVE MEDICINE

      UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS OF NORTH MIDLANDS NHS TRUST AND DOUGLAS MACMILLAN HOSPICE

      Applications are invited for the above post working in the University Hospitals of North Midlands and Douglas Macmillan Hospice. This is an exciting opportunity to join the established consultant and multidisciplinary teams in both organisations to provide Specialist Palliative care services to the populations of Staffordshire and Cheshire. This is an 8 PA post which includes an on-call commitment attracting category B availability supplement.

      Main duties of the job

      The successful candidate will join an existing dynamic team of 5 consultants working in the Staffordshire area to expand the Specialist Palliative Care services provided in the University Hospitals of North Midlands and the Douglas Macmillan Hospice. The successful candidate will be a core member of the Hospital Palliative Care Team working in both hospital sites providing specialist palliative advice, outpatient services and inpatient care for our 10 palliative medicine beds. The successful candidate will also be a core member of the Douglas Macmillan Hospice team providing specialist palliative care services for both inpatients and community patients.

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • Full registration with the GMC Possession of MRCP.
      • Entry on Specialist Register or in U.K. training scheme or within 6 months of award of CCT at time of interview or CESR application in progress through Portfolio Pathway for Specialist Registration.

      Desirable

      • A higher degree (eg MSc in Palliative Medicine)

      Clinical experience

      Essential

      • Good general clinical experience in the specialty including of working in a hospice setting.
      • Experience of liaising and co-ordinating care between multiple clinical teams
      • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within all areas of palliative medicine.
      • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients.
      • Experience of conducting clinical audit.
