      The post holder will be working as a Consultant Psychiatrist on Campion Unit.

      Main duties of the job

      As Consultant Psychiatrist, the postholder will have the following responsibilities:

      Consultant medical responsibility for the diagnosis/management and treatment of allocated patients.

      Supervision of other medical staff attached to the team and multidisciplinary team working with nursing staff and other mental health professionals.

      To provide medical leadership to the inpatient services whilst working closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary clinical team, particularly the Ward Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist and the ward team.

      The post holder is expected to arrange cross cover with the other Consultant Psychiatrists in the Learning Disability Service. These arrangements are agreed with the Associate Director and Medical Lead for the Learning Disability Service

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • Section 12 Mental Health Act Approved or eligible
      • Hold Approved Clinician status or be eligible
      • Higher specialist training in psychiatry in approved training post for a minimum of three years, or previous consultant experience relevant to this post
      • CCT in Psychiatry; OR Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry

      Desirable

      • Higher degree or equivalent in relevant field of medical, psychological or other studies
      • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists Guidelines)
      • Sub-speciality or other specialist clinical training relevant to post

      Experience

      Essential

      • Has worked in a senior non-consultant level post in acute adult psychiatry, within an inpatient and/or community setting.
      • Ability to undertake full range of consultant responsibilities.

      Desirable

      • Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group.
      • Development of services within inpatient settings
