      Job summary

      This is a substantive appointment, based predominantly at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre inNorthwood, Middlesex with commitments at Watford Hospital (West Herts). The post comprises 10programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment.

      This post is available immediately to provide site specific services to the local population andsurrounding areas. Out-patient duties and SACT delivery will be at the Mount Vernon CancerCentre. On the Watford Hospital site you will contribute to the AOS service. The West Hertsoutpatient urology clinics are held in St Albans Hospital. The post holder will be joining dynamicteams of surgeons and oncologists with a significant national research reputation in both tumoursites.

      Main duties of the job

      • Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care
      • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of theservice
      • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
      • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings anddirectorate clinical governance activity
      • Delivery and development of SACT administration
      • Active participation in continuing medical education
      • Active participation in trial research activities

      Essential

      • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
      • College Membership RCP or qualification of an equivalent level

      Desirable

      • College Fellowship
      • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)

      Experience

      Essential

      • Broad range of experience in Medical Oncology in particular specialist interests in gynaecology cancers.
      • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
      • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
      • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

      Desirable

      • Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
      • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidencebased practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
      • Demonstrable experience and participation in research
