      Job summary

As a Consultant at Practice Plus Group you will have access to great facilities in a well-structured and relaxed environment. We perform high volumes of orthopaedic surgery in our unit with 1500+ hip and knee arthroplasties being performed in the year 21/22 during the recovery from Covid-19 with a expectation of building on this in the coming year. Our length of stay averages for both hip and knee surgery are significantly below 2 days and we are growing our same day discharge arthroplasty pathways with our enhanced recovery programme. We would welcome a surgeon who is able to help to develop this. Our adjusted PROMs outcomes are consistently better than the national average. Our orthopaedic surgeons are part of the Practice Plus network of surgeons within our surgical units in England and are very much part of a large team with the opportunities for support and learning that this brings. Salary is competitive, but substantive employment only to be considered.

      Main duties of the job

      Reporting to our Medical Director, Alison, you will perform a range of orthopaedic procedures on patients referred to the Hospital. You will be treating both NHS and private patients referred to the hospital, working in accordance with hospital protocols and working practices. As well as being able to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in elective orthopaedic procedures from your substantive experience, you will required to perform surgical procedures on patients referred to the hospital, working in accordance with hospital protocols and working practices. These will include particularly Joint replacement operations, namely:

      • Primary knee arthroplasty
      • Primary hip uncemented, cemented & hybrid.
      In addition, you may be required to carry out other operations that are within your range of expertise, and are contracted to the hospital. As a UK registered professional, with a listing on the Specialist GMC register, we will support you with your ongoing CPD and career development. Please ensure that your CV used in applying includes details of what interested you in the role as well as describing relevant experience within the past 3 years i.e number of cases performed and outcomes from national database (when relevant).

      In time consultants joining Practice Plus Group will be guided through the process to achieve accreditation with BUPA, applicants already with this accreditation are considered favourably and encouraged to highlight this in their application.

      About us

      You will be required to demonstrate a high level of operative skill in the following areas:

      • Primary hip replacement: demonstrable evidence in the NJR of having performed at least 150 hip replacement procedures
      • Primary knee replacement: demonstrable evidence in the NJR of having performed at least 150 knee replacement procedures.
