- On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register

- Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff

Job summary

We are looking to appoint a whole time Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in paediatric orthopaedics and adult hip surgery. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 established hip and 3 paediatric orthopaedic consultants in a department that consists in total of 31 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and 7 Consultant Spinal surgeons responsible for the provision of trauma and orthopaedic/spinal services to the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to elective and trauma workload of the department but with a specialist paediatric orthopaedic interest and the management of adolescent and young adult hip.
In addition, the post holder would also be competent in managing general adult and specialist paediatric trauma. The successful candidate would be expected to engage with the South Wales paediatric orthopaedic network and bolster the provision of specialist hip surgery services. Specialist interest and experience in soft tissue hip & hip arthroplasty, as well as general paediatric orthopaedics is highly desirable. The post holder would also ideally contribute to the provision of trauma hip arthroplasty & operative treatment of periprosthetic femoral fracture.
