- Lead work with the team to deliver the design of research systems/processes/protocols to ensure high-quality research design, implementation, and analysis.
- Collaborate with Program teams to identify and address research questions to enhance the effectiveness of programs and partnerships and alignment to the Young Africa Works strategy, EleV, and other functional programs.
- Contribute to building a culture that encourages evidence-informed decision-making.
- Work with the team to lead, collate, commission, provide subject matter expertise, and synthesize research on programmatic, strategic, and other programs’ knowledge building, including understanding country and regional contexts to support program co-design, implementation, and review processes.
- Disseminate relevant lessons learned and insights to internal and external audiences.
- Continuously explore sharing opportunities for the Foundation’s program work.
- Work with Research Team to build and strengthen the capacity of others to deliver high-quality research, analysis, publications, and documentation.
- A PhD in Social Sciences and Humanities, Global Development, or Public Policy Research (preferred).
- A minimum of 12 years of leadership experience in higher education, the social sciences, development, and/or government or public policy within non-profit organizations, international NGOs, and/or learning institutions.
- Expertise in researching development, political, and social issues across Africa, including economic transformation and research partnerships.
- Proven experience in engaging with technical experts and institutions to build communities of practice in Africa.
- Experience managing enterprise-wide research or knowledge development teams with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
- Excellent research skills with the ability to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to relate to a broad range of internal stakeholders.
- Client service mindset with a commitment to co-creation and inclusive approaches.
- Energetic, independent, and self-motivated with a solution-based approach, demonstrating innovation and resilience.
- Demonstrated success in building and managing high-performing teams.
- Fluency in relevant languages, with French being desirable.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, capable of articulating information across cultures.

These offices provide strong in-country support for the implementation of Young Africa Works. We collaborate with governments, the private sector, educators, and other funders to enhance the quality of education and vocational training, equip young individuals with the necessary skills for the workforce, expand access to financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and facilitate connections between job seekers and meaningful employment opportunities.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Senior Director, Research and Learning, the Consultant will drive knowledge development to support emerging Foundation programs and strategic needs and further Young Africa Works and other Foundation program objectives.
The location is remote within Africa or at any of the Foundation’s offices (Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, Rwanda, or Kenya).
