      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join The Older Peoples Mental Health team working in the community locality in the East of Southampton with a catchment area of 6,000 Older Adults.

      The post holder will work in close working relationship with two senior doctors in the East Southampton team consisting of a full time and a part time consultant colleague. The East Southampton team is a mature team with its staff able to undertake initial assessments of referrals, including urgent referrals as part of an established duty system.

      Main duties of the job

      The service is currently based at Tom Rudd unit, Moorgreen Hospital, West End, Southampton, SO30 3JB. The team is an established multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Team with members of the team carrying out assessments of new referrals, in addition to therapeutic interventions, monitoring and carer support. The team meets every Tuesday for a clinical meeting, where new referrals are allocated and patients discussed.

      The current clinical team consists of 1.7 Consultant Psychiatrists in addition to this post to make it a total of 2.4 consultant psychiatrists. A higher ST4-ST6 trainee historically attached to this team will move permanently from Moorgreen hospital to be based at the Western community hospital. The team benefits from a recurring foundation year 2 junior trainee with an expected expansion to accommodate another FY2 trainee in August 2025. There is a full-time band 7 team leader and a team of multi-disciplinary professionals consisting of community mental health nurses, a part-time occupational therapist across the city and a part-time clinical psychologist. There is a dedicated band 6 nurse covering all care homes in the East area of the city.

      In addition, the clinical team is well supported by health care support workers and secretarial/administrative staff.
