      Job summary

      The Trust has an exciting new opportunity and is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join our established multi professional team at Maister Lodge and Court. Maister Lodge is a 14 bedded acute mental health unit to meet and manage the needs of those who as a result of the diagnosis of dementia experience challenging behaviours, and Maister Court is a 5 bedded functional male unit.

      The service provides inpatient services for the local population of Hull and East Yorkshire commissioned jointly by the two local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG's). The ward has benefited from extensive recent renovations and provides a high quality environment of care with gender specific sleeping and daytime space, extra care areas and bright open communal space.

      Main duties of the job

      In fulfilling the clinical duties of the post, the Consultant will be expected to undertake the following:

      1. To contribute to Multi-Disciplinary and Multi-Agency team working arrangements within the unit.
      2. To hold responsible clinician status, and be an approved clinician as defined within the Mental Health Act for patients within the service.
      3. To work within the principles of the Care Programme Approach.
      4. The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership within the unit. This will include the supervision and leadership to the medical team within the service.
      5. To take part in the Consultant on-call rota for Old Age Psychiatry and Learning Disability.
      6. To provide a comprehensive mental health service for older people, their family and carers.
      7. To provide short-term cover for authorised periods of absence and duty of Consultant's colleagues.
      8. To contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision of junior doctors.
      9. To participate in continuing professional development according to Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.
      10. To complete all relevant clinical administration associated with this post.
