      The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Content Coordinator to join the Kobo Writing Life (KWL) and Kobo Originals content teams! These teams focus on two of the most exciting areas of publishing: independent publishing and original content creation. The Content Coordinator will help make indie authors’ and Kobo’s own publishing projects a reality by keeping the wheels turning smoothly behind the scenes. This is an administrative and operations focused role that supports many key processes including financial admin, asset management, eBook production and author support.

      The Person:

You will have your hands in several different projects, providing seamless coordination of multi-faceted projects that require a detail-oriented and organized individual to wrangle them. You’ll spend your day moving pieces, solving problems, and talking to people inside and outside of Kobo, including our international content teams located in France and Netherlands. As the owner of these processes, you will constantly ask, “How can we improve?” and implement your solutions. You’ll have a diverse set of responsibilities with the opportunity for exposure to many elements of the publishing process.

      Responsibilities Include:

      • Financial - Day-to-day financial administrative tasks like account creation, processing invoices, monthly sales reporting, and connecting with authors and rights holders about royalty statements and payments. You will work closely with our finance team to investigate payment inquiries and be responsible for maintaining payment documentation (you don’t need to be an accountant, just precise and not afraid of numbers).
      • Administrative - Managing content assets and metadata, assisting with reporting and promotions, and maintaining merchandising spots like landing pages, lists, etc.
      • Support - Working directly with KWL authors for onboarding and general queries and developing support documentation.
      • Production - Assisting with the preparation and QA of books before publication, compiling metadata, cover research, general support, coordinate distribution of advanced reader copies, occasional compilation of media files for KWL audiobooks.
      • Research - Investigating things like book rights, potential content partners and authors, competitive review, etc.

      The Skillset:

      Required:

      • Has 1-2 years of professional experience that’s heavy on the administrative side of things, and previous experience in customer service.
      • Has advanced knowledge of MS Word and Excel (everyone thinks they know MS Word, but you really know MS Word).
      • Is incredibly detail-oriented and exacting. Seriously. This role is for someone who can keep many moving parts moving towards a shared goal and consistently ensure all our bases are covered.
      • Is familiar with the indie publishing landscape and trends in the author community, (if you love #BookTok this is the right place for you!)
      • Is ready for a challenge: the projects that this person will touch are often dynamic, and the demands on the team change on the fly.
      • Is entrepreneurial in nature and comfortable working on a team that values a “DIY” approach.
      • Is a strong believer in the value of original content and the self-publishing industry.
      • Is an ambitious problem solver, driven by delivering results.

      Nice to Haves:

      • Familiarity with ONIX 3.0 eBook production experience.
      • Interest in analytics, previous exposure to Tableau or similar.
      • Experience using project management tools such as ClickUp.
      • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Zendesk.
      • Knowledge of finance tools such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV or SAP.
      • Previous experience using a content management system.
      • Knowledge of French or Dutch is a strong asset.

      The Perks:

      • Flexible hours and remote working environment
      • Daily lunch credit when working in-office
      • Dog-friendly office
      • 90 Day “Work from Anywhere” program
      • Free Kobo device + free weekly e-book or audiobook
      • Weekly Kobo Tech University sessions
      • Mentorship program
      • Employee Purchase Program & Corporate Partner Discounts
      • Four extended long weekends in the summer
