      Position Summary:


      This is a professional position in the Office of Children and Families (OCF). This position reports to the Communications Director for the Department of Human Services (DHS) in OCF and works in close partnership with its Prevention, Early Childhood Education and Adult Education teams. It plays a significant role in the department’s internal communications, messaging, branding, social media, visual storytelling and marketing of services to employees, clients, the general public, agency providers, other City departments, City Council, and other partners. This position primarily focuses on key department priorities, which include but are not limited to foster care recruitment, family engagement, parenting programs and youth intervention services.

      Duties and Responsibilities:


      Spearhead DHS content strategy for various digital and traditional channels. This includes, but is not limited to, organizing, drafting, and editing copy for social media (Twitter, FB, and Instagram), phila.gov website (blog posts and webpages), e- newsletters (internal and external), and marketing materials (flyers, brochures, guides)

      · Manage the DHS email inbox and respond to incoming inquiries
      · Design the creative direction and execution of photography on a department-wide basis and for collaborative OCF initiatives
      · Mange the photography inventory, equipment, and tools
      · Create documentary and promotional videos for social media, websites, and live screenings that will be used for internal and external DHS purposes. Ability to work with hired production crew if necessary
      · Prepare, analyze, and provide strategic recommendations on digital communications using supportive data and routine performance reports
      · Collaborate with the communications team and partners on the development of internal and external events that highlight the DHS work such as Adoption Day and Reunification Month Celebration
      · Collaborate on creative strategies and campaigns to showcase the DHS work, particularly for social media and advertising
      · Represent DHS by attending community events and assisting with the distribution of promotional materials
      · Contribute to vendor selection and management
      · Assist with drafting press materials, including but not limited to, media responses, public statements, talking points, speeches, and press releases
      · Identify professional development opportunities to learn new skills and improve existing ones
      Skills Required:
      · Excellent photography and videography skills
      · Strong working knowledge of social media platforms
      · Excellent writing skills including ability to be concise, descriptive
      · Strong organizational skills, including ability to meet established deadlines
      · Self-direction, ability to take ownership, and drive responsibilities through to completion
      · Experience with child welfare/juvenile justice services programs is not a requirement, but a plus
      · Microsoft Office proficiencies
      · Experience with WordPress or another CMS preferred
      · Fluency in other languages is not a requirement, but a plus
      · Available to work nights and weekends as needed
      · Familiarity with, and understanding of, City of Philadelphia municipal operations and departments desired
      · Experience in graphic design and social media
      · Ability to work well with team members


      Education and Experience:

      B/A or B/S from an accredited four-year college or university

      2+ years of experience in the field of communications, graphic design, public relations, mass communications, or journalism.
