For over 40 years, Nelnet has been serving its customers, associates, and communities.

The perks of working at Nelnet go beyond our benefits package. When you join the Nelnet team, you're part of a community invested in the success of each individual. That support comes through in our work, as we are united by our mission of creating opportunities for people where they live, learn, and work.

At Nelnet, we believe associate experience is at the heart of a thriving organization. As a Content Specialist on our Associate Experience team, you will play a critical role in shaping how our associates interact with engagement and development opportunities across the company. You’ll be responsible for creating, managing, and optimizing internal content that empowers associates to grow, connect, and thrive.

This role requires a user-first mindset, a passion for clear, engaging, people-driven communication, and strong experience in web design, content creation, and internal communications. You will also help build and manage SharePoint sites, contribute to strategic communication plans, create learning materials, and collaborate across teams to ensure associate development initiatives are accessible, impactful, and aligned to business goals.

This position will report to the Senior Associate Development Program Manager.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Design and maintain internal web pages with a primary focus on SharePoint, ensuring information is clear, organized, and user-friendly.

      • Create compelling and informative content for internal audiences, including associate development and engagement program descriptions, newsletters, announcements, guides, and FAQs.

      • Develop and execute communication plans for associate development initiatives, trainings, and experiences across Nelnet.

      • Partner with People Services and business stakeholders to understand program goals and craft messaging and delivery strategies that resonate with associates.

      • Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and branding across all associate development content and touchpoints.

      • Use analytics, feedback, and best practices to continuously improve content performance and reach.

      • Collaborate with the Associate Experience team to support broader engagement and connection initiatives through content development.

      • Monitor and manage incoming messages in the Associate Experience team inbox, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses to associate inquiries, ideas, and requests.

      Required Experience & Skills

      • 3+ years of experience in content creation, corporate communications, or a related field.

      • Demonstrated ability to design intuitive, attractive, well-organized web pages (SharePoint experience strongly preferred).

      • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to tone, clarity, and audience resonance.

      • Experience supporting or managing associate development and engagement content, programs, or platforms.

      • Experience developing learning content in a variety of formats (e.g., written, video, visual).

      • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality work on time.

      • A creative thinker who is user-focused and collaborative by nature.

      • Emotionally intelligent communicator with the ability to anticipate how messaging will be received and adapt it with the associate experience in mind.

      • Strong organizational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.

      • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, especially SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams.

Compensation range for this position is $55,000 to $60,000, depending on experience.

Our benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, HSA and FSA, generous earned time off, 401K/student loan repayment, life insurance & AD&D insurance, employee assistance program, employee stock purchase program, tuition reimbursement, performance-based incentive pay, short- and long-term disability, and a robust wellness program.
