Job Description

- Maintains and updates electronic control room logs by notating floor activities, visitors, transfers, and interactions to maintain an accurate activity log and count of inmates at all times.
- Monitors inmates via video cameras, video monitors, and physical observation to ensure safety and wellbeing of inmates and deputy/police officer/correctional officer interactions with inmates.
- Assists deputies/correctional officers in maintaining jail security and inmate safety by using touch screen monitor to open and close floor, block, and cell doors.
- Directs and assists the public, visitors, and attorneys at the jail reception desk by greeting visitors, verifying inmate and visitor identification to see if visitation is permitted, answering questions, and notifying appropriate personnel to ensure efficiency of facility.
- Assists deputies with incident reports by giving them the exact time incidents occurred.
- Uses the touch screen monitor for opening and closing floor, block, and cell doors for deputies, inmates, and visitors.
- Monitors various populations of inmates including men, women, violent, non-violent, juveniles, protective custody, and workers to maintain inmate safety and jail security.
- Relays inmate requests to appropriate personnel (e.g., deputy, police officer) to assist or respond to their requests and grievances.
- Driver's license.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Have NO felony convictions.
- Never have been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude or serious misdemeanor (e.g., 3rd degree assault, domestic violence, weapons, or drug charges).
- Never have been sentenced to serve time in a jail or correctional facility.

- May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

Control Room Operators are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure jail environment by providing surveillance of corrections personnel and jail inmates and controlling secured access doors throughout the jail. Employees in this job class closely monitor activities throughout the jail in order to prepare and maintain detailed records of inmates’ visitations, activities, transfers, interactions, and incidents. Employees also coordinate the movement of staff, inmates, and visitors throughout the jail. Control Room Operators may also work at the jail reception desk to direct and assist visitors to the jail.TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
