Job Description

- Recommend and administer all accounting policies and procedures, ensuring that strong internal controls and effective transaction processing routines are in place to protect the assets of the school and result in meaningful, timely and accurate financial reporting
- Manage and lead the Finance & Accounting team while cross-training on all finance functions including payroll, accounts payable, budgeting, accounts receivable, enrollment, and student billing
- Ensure accurate and timely financial information and reporting, including all financial statements, cash and variance analysis, and dashboard reports while maintaining general ledger chart of accounts
- Ensure accurate and appropriate coding and/or approval of all revenue, expenditure and journal transactions to their appropriate accounts, including unrestricted, temporarily restricted and permanently restricted funds
- Assist the CFO in preparation and monitoring of monthly departmental budget reports and forecasts while partnering with department heads to ensure budget performance expectations are being met; provide support for Finance Committee or other Board-related meetings
- Plan, coordinate and oversee the annual financial audit for the School
- Oversee and assist in administering the financial aid and re-enrollment processes
- Analyze ancillary programs for profitability and effectiveness while reviewing key school factors and trends
- Actively stay current on new regulations in GAAP and relevant non-profit accounting issues.
- Proficiency using and learning digital financial tools

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
- Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills
- Exemplary history of financial project management
- School and Fund Accounting experience preferred

What we Do: The Team
The Finance & Accounting Team works collaboratively to manage all financial aspects of the school. The team consists of the CFO, Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable & Payroll Manager, and Senior Accountant. Leveraging several digital tools and platforms such as Blackbaud, Veracross, Paymerang and Divvy the team works to increase efficiency and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the financial arm of the School.
Why this Position is Important: The Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for coordinating and assisting in the preparation of financial reports such as statements of activities, statements of financial position, statements of cash flows, and analyses of historical and projected income and expense, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. The Controller supervises the accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial aid and student billing operations as well as the functions of audit, enrollment, budgeting and reporting.
