  About the Position: This position is located at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.
  
  Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.
  
  Duties
  
  
  • Perform a wide variety of cooking tasks without being told how to do the work and without close review.
  • Prepare and cook foods for regular and modified diets such as grilling pancakes, bacon and eggs to order, opening and heating canned vegetables or fruits.
  • Prepare cereal, soups and stews, vegetables, fruits, sauces, gravies, steaks, etc.
  • Assist in grilling chops, steaks, poultry, and fish by watching while the items are cooking, turning as required and removing when done.
  • Prepare meats for grilling, roasting or baking, carefully and accurately regulating steam pressures, checking steam gauges and oven thermometers for proper maintenance of cooking temperatures
  • Equipment used in cooking includes electrical, steam and pressure cookers, toasters, ovens, mixers, slicer, etc.
  • Clean equipment used, food preparation tables, floor and food preparation areas to which assigned.
  • Set up cafeteria line and serves hot foods, salads and desserts.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential. Incumbent will be required to insure continuity of Tripler Army Medical Center's operations during ALL hazards emergency situations.
  • A pre-employment medical exam is required.
  • May require rotating shift work, to include evenings and holidays.
  • This position may require overtime work.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This is an inclement weather essential position.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
  
  Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) COOK~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience performing a full range of common cooking tasks such as pancakes, eggs, grilled sandwiches, hamburgers; use a variety of cooking equipment to include but not limited to grills, ovens, fryers, and microwaves. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves frequent lifting or moving pans weighing up to 30 pounds (e.g., utensils or containers with food); constant standing and walking; and occasional lifting of over 50 pounds (e.g., pans of meat).
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbents are exposed to soiling of hands by cooking oils, grease, and food. Kitchens are often uncomfortably warm and noisy. Incumbents may be exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking. They are exposed to extremes in temperatures when entering walk-in refrigerators from warm kitchen. There is danger of falling on floors that have been freshly mopped or when food has been spilled; burns from steam or hot foods; and cuts from knives and electrical machines.
