      What is the role?


      Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for a Coordinator position within the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Command.

      The Chief Information Officer (CIO) Command is a trusted frontline partner that enables policing through problem solving and technical expertise and excellence. The CIO Command provides corporate application, ICT end to end solutions, advice, cyber security and infrastructure that underpin AFP activities. The CIO Command aims to be a highly collaborative, innovative, reliable and trusted enabler for all Commands across the AFP. The products and services delivered are user focused, secure and fit for purpose, while supported by a highly skilled, agile and resilient workforce.

      The CIO Command comprises of four branches; Technology Strategy and Data, Enterprise and Policing Systems, Chief Technology Officer and Cyber Security and Risk. The Chief Technology Officer and the Technology Strategy and Data portfolios currently have the following vacancies at the Executive Level:

      • Coordinator Productivity & Collaboration
      • Coordinator Information Management


      Although specific skill sets for the current vacancies are required, the process may also be used to create a merit pool for future opportunities. Specifically, those with cloud services, enterprise systems, infrastructure operations, data services, application development and cyber security experience are encouraged to apply.

      You will work under the strategic direction of the senior executive and are responsible for the leadership and management of a number of teams to deliver outcomes. They require in depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation’s reputation to effectively manage operations.

      You will also be responsible for leading and managing a team/s dedicated to delivering a business function to the AFP. The role has both a practical and strategic focus requiring the application of sound business principles in the management of resources to meet AFP outputs in the most effective and efficient manner.

      Executive Level employees must also ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

      What will you do?

      Successful applicants will be able to acquire an in-depth knowledge and understanding of AFP business to enable effective technology and information management and delivery. This may include:

      • Ensuring all financial and human resources with their team is utilised effectively to achieve business area outcomes.
      • Contributing to the AFP’s strategic direction through development of corporate business planning and strategies.
      • Exercising a high level of influence on areas of specialisation and demonstrate business management capabilities.
      • Providing high level conceptual and strategic advice with the ability to conduct briefings.
      • Building and sustaining internal and external professional networks and collaborative working relationships.
      • Using extensive knowledge and expertise to guide, mentor and develop team leaders and members to ensure the sustainability of skills and knowledge in the AFP.
      • Identifying, evaluating, and supporting technological changes, policy and legislation within the relevant field that can be utilised to enhance the AFP's response capability.
      • Driving the provision of business area services while demonstrating political awareness and understanding.
      • Maintaining currency in policy, legislation and subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.

      Essential Requirements

      • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
      • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
      • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills being able to work collaboratively. Experience working with technology and an understanding of complex systems and scenarios.
      • Demonstrated staff management experience and leadership skills.
      • Proficiency in risk management, problem-solving and strategic planning.
      • Demonstrated relevant experience related to the roles.

      Desirable Requirements

      The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
