      Job Profile Summary

      Under limited supervision, the Coordinator of New Student Orientation (NSO) will be responsible for the planning, scheduling and implementation of NSO sessions, hiring and training student leaders and assistants, and coordinating campus tours as needed with the orientation team and student ambassadors.

      This individual will coordinate reminder and follow up calls for NSO participants, track NSO enrollment numbers and contact students who miss their scheduled session. This position will assist with academic advisor caseload management by identifying students enrolled in courses who have missed their NSO. Coordinate classroom-use schedule and logistics (including technology requirements), update orientation material on a regular basis to ensure that all policies and procedures are current.

      In addition, the Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage students in the orientation sessions, assist with enrollment based initiatives at the campus, and develop and implement First Year Experience (FYE) programming on the campus. The Coordinator of New Student Orientation will also be responsible for assisting the Student Life Office with other duties as assigned. Some travel may be required.

      Minimum Education:

      Bachelor's Degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work or related field.

      Minimum Experience/Training:

      Four years of experience working with new student orientation at the college level. Graduate Assistantship work will be acceptable.

      Knowledge of planning and implementing an orientation program. Experience facilitating sessions for new students, special populations of students, and developing and facilitating parent orientation sessions.

      An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

      Essential Functions:

      • Daily- 35%: Provides guidance and direction to 5 PT student orientation team members. This includes scheduling, hiring, training and team building sessions with the NSO team.
      • Daily 15%: Communicates with other NSO Coordinators at Broward College to ensure that the sessions are all being facilitated properly on each campus.
      • Monthly -10%: Coordinates, develops and implements strategies to increase engagement at the orientation sessions
      • Semester Basis - 10%:Collects applications, screens prospective orientation team members, coordinates placement and training of orientation team and leadership development opportunities (SROW)
      • Daily -15%: Maintains detailed reports on all orientation sessions, results from assessment and provides a summary of results.
      • Monthly -15%: Checks room availability and schedules orientation sessions in the college Computer Integrated Database (CID) system, creating reference numbers and monitors enrollment of students in the NSO sessions. Works with advisors to ensure student placement into NSO sessions.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      • Experience working with students in an educational setting.
      • Experience working with new student orientations.
      • Computer literate with working knowledge of Word, Excel, and CID System.
      • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
      • Experience planning and implementing programs and services, preferably at the community college setting.
      • Must have the ability to prepare and deliver various accountability reports.
      • Fully proficient in professional and functional standards and protocols of position
      • General understanding of College's structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own area
      • Expertise in understanding and following project plans, including the coordination of multiple resources and activities
      • Ability to exchange information with individuals and collaborate and colleagues within the College as well as presentation skills
      • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a diverse employee, student population.
