      Position Title: Coordinator of Access Initiatives

      Department: Interpretation

      Reports to: Director of Interpretation & Exhibitions


      FLSA Status: Part-time Permanent, Non-exempt

      Compensation: $23 per hour

      Schedule: 18 hours per week (some weekend work required)


      Position Description:

      Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s coordinator of access initiatives coordinates the Garden’s efforts to welcome and serve visitors with a wide range of needs. Serving as a liaison between consultants, advisors, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden staff, the coordinator of access initiatives reports to the director of Interpretation and Exhibitions.

      Responsibilities:

      • Coordinate and execute regular training for BBG staff and volunteers on all aspects of accessibility.
      • Maintain and update staff training materials as needed.
      • Coordinate accessible programming for groups (monthly Memory Tours, ASL Tours, Verbal Description Tours, Disability Pride Month, Early Openings).
      • Coordinate and participate in advisory board meetings.
      • Stay up to date on best practices in the field and adapt internal handbooks and other training materials accordingly.
      • Field questions from staff regarding accessibility in the Garden.
      • Perform other tasks as needed.

      Qualifications:

      • Knowledge and understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act and Universal Design
      • Minimum of two years’ experience working with disability communities
      • Experience working in a cultural organization preferred
      • Ability to work independently and on a team
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Comfort with public speaking and training
      • Proficiency in ASL and verbal description is a plus
