      Position Overview

      The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is looking for a Coordinator of Adult Education (Northern Region) that possesses a valid Professional Education License with a General Administrative Endorsement. This Coordinator position oversees the northern region adult education services provided within multiple correctional facilities and will also serve as a primary IDOC liaison and expert on academic post-secondary programming (often referred to as “college in prison programs”). This position oversees policy and supports the Correctional Educational Facility Administrators and will also be responsible for interfacing and problem-solving with IDOC’s various post-secondary education partners. This position requires extensive background knowledge of the higher education space, including enrollment, financial aid, and admissions. Additionally, this position will guide and direct any existing or new higher education program that provides educational services to individuals in custody in IDOC. This position requires extensive travel throughout the three regions of Illinois. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

      Job Responsibilities

      1. Serves as the primary liaison for academic post-secondary education programs statewide and provides input and guidance on the expansion of college in prison programs, to include how to best leverage state and federal aid, including Pell Grants.
      2. Serves as full line supervisor.
      3. Implements policy and procedures effecting program area.
      4. Travels to conduct Academic and Vocational Program audits and Administrative Directive audits.
      5. Maintains direct contact with educational program and facility administrators, educators and contractual employees.
      6. Approves and monitors test scheduling for high school equivalency test candidates.
      7. Prepares and submits grant applications for funding and requisite reports according to Illinois Community College Board timelines.
      8. Reviews and proposes revisions on all higher education programs.
      9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires Professional Educator License with a General Administrative Endorsement. (Type 75 or General Administrative Endorsement).
      2. Requires three (3) years of adult educational supervisory experience.

      Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Sigfnificance)

      1. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional teaching experience.
      2. Prefers a Master's Degree (M.A.) in Higher Education, Education, or a related field
      3. Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating educational programs.
      4. Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience in financial aid management.
      5. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience with compliance exceptions and report findings with adult and higher education programs.
      6. Prefers working knowledge of higher education governing and accrediting bodies.
      7. Prefers two (2) years of professional experience working within a budget.
      8. Prefers knowledge of educational experience in a correctional setting.
      9. Prefers knowledge of adult educational curriculum and GED testing requirements.

      Conditions of Employment

      1. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
      2. Requires the ability to carry a state cell phone.
      3. Requires the ability to carry a state issued laptop.
      4. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
      5. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
