      Job Description

      Major Responsibilities:

      • Participates in the review and formulation of policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements. (i.e. such as the 3Rs Ambassador Program).
      • Develops and maintains stakeholder and volunteer databases.
      • Plans, designs, and delivers volunteer activities. (i.e. Supports the promotion of the 3RsAmbassador Program, conducts site visits, engages multi-residential building staff, supports various volunteer engagements).
      • Participates in the recruitment, screening, selection, training and coaching of program volunteers. (i.e. including eligibility screening, training, onboarding and recognition).
      • Implements and supports various volunteer program standards, practices and guidelines. (i.e. Organizes documentation regarding all aspects of stakeholder engagement and volunteer program; develops and maintains guidelines for administrative functions for the volunteer program such as on-going recruiting, volunteer selection, deployment, dismissals, reassignment, liaises with volunteers, project teams and project managers; and, helps resolve issues as they emerge).
      • Co-ordinates administrative functions to support the volunteer program and stakeholder engagement (i.e. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to plan, organize and run events; and, attends and/or facilitates local outreach events organized by volunteers, community groups, industry associations, business organizations, etc.).
      • Liaises with volunteers, clients, vendors, project teams, project managers and senior management and the public (i.e. Provides direct support volunteers, property managers/superintendents and the general public on a daily basis answering questions, providing recommendations and information, managing social media pages, etc.; and, acts as liaison between City staff, volunteers and other stakeholders).
      • Consults with divisional staff to develop program messaging and promotional material (i.e. Supports the development of program resources and public education resources in collaboration with other teams and divisions; Supports the management of program resources and its inventory).
      • Develops volunteer training curriculum and materials. (e.g. Develops and maintains volunteer training content, training tools, outreach materials, newsletters, etc.).
      • Develops program website content information.
      • Organizes Divisional volunteer recognition program and events.
      • Provides input into budget for program. (i.e. supports the annual operational planning process; provides recommendations on outreach events, tools, literature, etc.).
      • Coordinates, leads and evaluates current volunteer programs. Prepares reports and makes recommendations. (i.e. prepares annual reports with lessons learned, summarizing results and recommendations; implements approved recommendations; leads change management efforts as needed).
      • Attends and/or facilitates local outreach events, provides support to volunteers and relays current policy/program information/updates.
      • Ensures that service delivery meets client's expectations. (i.e. Identifies opportunities to enhance, grow and sustain the 3Rs Ambassador program long-term; relays up-to-date, accurate waste-related information to volunteers on a continual basis; works with volunteers to identify opportunities and solutions).
      • Develops partnership with related organizations and internal/external volunteer agencies and programs.

      Key Qualifications:

      Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

      1. Post-secondary education in a related discipline (i.e. Social Sciences, Community Development, Sciences, etc.) or a combination of relevant experience.
      2. Extensive experience participating, facilitating and/or delivering outreach-related initiatives to a diverse audience, including experience organizing, facilitating and running events in a variety of settings and for diverse audiences.
      3. Extensive experience delivering excellent customer service to a diverse group of customers/clients.
      4. Extensive experience working or collaborating with various stakeholders, including the other levels of government, the non-profit sector, community organizations, neighborhood associations, business improvement areas, and/or businesses.
      5. Extensive experience delivering presentations to diverse audiences with different needs, and translating technical content into language appropriate to the different audiences.
      6. Experience implementing project management principles and change management methodologies.
      7. Experience supporting the management of volunteer-based programs, including the coordination of volunteer activities in collaboration with other stakeholders.
      8. Experience analyzing, developing, monitoring and administering programs and services for diverse audiences.
      9. Experience developing and maintaining educational curricula and training for volunteers and other stakeholders.
      10. Experience or training in dispute/conflict resolution/de-escalation techniques.
      11. Extensive experience using Microsoft office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and using video and conference call platforms (i.e. Webex, Zoom, Teams, etc.). Use of other online platforms, including social media, and other software is considered an asset.

      You must also have:

      • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
      • Must be able to attend in-person events, activities and site visits across the City.
      • Possession of a G License is an asset.
      • Ability to implement equity, diversity and inclusion frameworks to all work-related activities.
      • Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and accommodations principles.
      • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff, volunteers, families, agencies, partners, members of the public, etc.
      • Experience drafting briefing notes, reports, decks, minutes, etc., preferably in a government setting.
      • Broad knowledge of Toronto reduce, reuse, recycling and other solid waste management policies and programs.
      • Individual must have a high degree of initiative, leadership and be able to work well with minimal supervision.
      • Must be able to report to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner.
      • Ability to provide work direction to other employees/volunteers.
