- Grade 12 or equivalent*
- Grade 12 English with a final grade of 70% or equivalent*
- Valid BC Driver's license (minimum class 5), or equivalent from another province.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (you must be legally permitted to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position either through citizenship or permanent residency)

As a Correctional Officer, you are responsible for maintaining the security and safety of those in custody through fair and equitable programming, guidance and direction. In this position, you will take an active role in creating a supportive environment by providing opportunities for positive attitude and behavioural change through community service work.
Adult Custody, part of the Corrections Branch, is responsible for the care of approximately 2,800 individuals in our care. This division plays a leading role in the criminal justice system through offender management and control.

Note: Current BC Correctional Officers are exempt from providing documentation already submitted, or undergoing assessments completed, when hired into the position.

About this Position

"Work Where you Live!" - Multiple full-time positions available at Correctional Centres located in Surrey, Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Oliver, Prince George, and Victoria. We are also recruiting for full-time positions at Nanaimo Correctional Centre, however the start date for these positions is not anticipated to be until late 2023 continuing into 2024. An eligibility list may be established.

Assessment Process
Applicants that meet the minimum requirements AND submit the required documentation for Grade 12 graduation and Grade 12 English will be invited to complete further assessments in the hiring process as noted below.IMPORTANT: Qualified applicants who submit complete applications by August 27th will be invited to participate in the first round of assessments in the hiring process. Those who submit complete applications between August 27th and October 9th will be invited to participate in the second round of assessments in the hiring process. Those who submit complete applications between October 10th and November 13th will be invited to participate in the third and final round of assessments in the hiring process.
Applicants selected to move forward in the hiring process may be assessed on the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies as outlined in the attached Job Profile located at the bottom of the posting.
