      Reports to: Department Chair

      Department: Counseling

      FLSA Status: Full-time Exempt

      POSITION DESCRIPTION:

      The Core Teaching Faculty for the online site of the Counseling Program is an employee of The Family Institute at Northwestern University. The Core Teaching faculty works closely with program leaders and other faculty and administrators to ensure high quality instruction that adheres to the mission, policy, and procedures of the Counseling department and CACREP, the accreditation body for the profession. The Core teaching faculty also performs faculty responsibilities in the department including admissions, committee involvement, student advising, community-building and scholarship activities consistent with academic professional identity and role.

      PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1) Teaches at least 4 courses quarterly in a virtual digital campus

      2) Serves as course lead on one course annually in the digital campus

      3) Advised students on academics and scholarly pursuits

      4) Provides timely student grading and feedback

      5) Contributes to the Department’s teaching excellence goals and discourses

      6) Support’s teaching of faculty peers, including subbing on occasion

      7) Supports the department’s mission to promote student’s academic success

      OTHER CORE FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Participates in the department’s immersion activities
      2. Participates in student academic advising
      3. Provides Capstone mentorship as requested
      4. Participates in the program’s admission operations
      5. Assists in program evaluation activities
      6. Participates in prospective student webinars or informationals
      7. Participates in and/or lead program orientation activities
      8. Participates in various faculty-led committees
      9. Perform other duties as assigned
      10. Participates in the department’s accreditation activities

      SCHOLARSHIP & LEADERSHIP

      1. Participates in internal and external profession centered activities (e.g., local regional and national professional bodies)
      2. Participates in scholarship activities (e.g., research, presentations, publications)
      3. Participants in multicultural and psychodynamic infusion activities in the department, profession and in community settings
      4. Contributes to career development activities, as requested
      5. Participates in student remediation deliberations, as requested

      SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

      Knowledge and Skills:

      1. Strong Counselor Education and Supervisor identity as evidenced by professional affiliation and scholarship
      2. Ability to teach within the discipline of Counseling at the graduate level
      3. Excellent organization skills
      4. Cultural competence and strong interest in diversity
      5. Creativity, innovation, and ability to work independently and within a team
      6. Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
      7. Strong time management and problem-solving skills
      8. Ability to successfully resolve issues from identification through resolution
      9. Effectively work with multiple databases and student platforms
      10. Skilled at connecting and building rapport with students and faculty
      11. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
      12. Excellent oral and written communication skills

      Minimum Hiring Specifications:

      1. Earned CACREP-accredited Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision
      2. Experience teaching graduate level courses
      3. Eligibility to meet the rank of Clinical Lecturer through Clinical Full Professor at Northwestern University
      4. Experience supervising graduate students in clinical settings
      5. Licensure or licensure eligibility in home state
