The Legislative Services Branch is responsible for establishing an Information Management framework for the management of records and information assets of the City; managing the City Archives to acquire and preserve civic government records and data that have long-term value for the City for legal, historical or other research purposes; and coordinating corporate-wide accessibility initiatives to ensure the City meets all legislated requirements related to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, including statutory reporting to the province, as well as to facilitate improved access to City services for people with disabilities.
You work with multiple stakeholders, including the Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, the City’s management team and staff, and representatives of the City’s disability community, to facilitate change within the corporation to achieve equity and inclusion and improved access to city services for people with disabilities, as directed by Council and provincial legislation.
You are responsible for leading the City’s response to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) (2005) and its regulations and standards, which mandates accessible city services by 2025. Service areas in scope for this multi-year effort include: the built environment, transportation, information and communication, employment, customer service, as well as public feedback systems and documentation. As the City’s corporate consultant and expert on accessibility policies and the delivery of accessible services, you are also responsible for the City’s overall relationship with the disability community, providing advice to City departments and service areas, and coordinating, planning, evaluating and reporting on improvements regarding the accessibility of city services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in social work, health, communications, general arts, social sciences, public administration, or related field
Minimum of 5 to 8 years of varied and progressive experience, including significant experience with accessibility issues, working with community groups, research, analysis, performance measurement, strategic and operational planning, program design, program evaluation, policy development and project management
