- Preparing and entering journal entries regarding bank transactions, accruals, prepaids, reclasses, interest calculations, insurance, etc.
- Maintaining journal entry checklist
- Preparing corporate bank reconciliations
- Maintain account analysis for corporate balance sheet accounts
- Prepare monthly account analysis (including variance commentaries) and journal entries for all corporate departments and provide support to property accounting department as and when is required.
- Support in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for all corporate departments, performing sensitivity analysis as required.
- Assist in preparation of internal management reports and other schedules to support MD&A reports
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting systems/processes
- Maintain proper monthly and year-end accounting working paper files.
- Assist in any quarterly and annual auditing processes as required
- Assist in documentation of accounting processes and procedures for various functions within corporate accounting
- Prepare or support in preparation of external surveys, e.g. Statistics Canada, ESG, CMHC
- Other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
- Accounting Diploma
- 1-3 years relevant Accounting experience
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Basic knowledge of IFRS applicable to area of responsibility
- Effective organization and time management skills
- Excellent communication, both oral, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work overtime when required to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Word is a requirement
- Knowledge of the SAP system would be an asset
- Real estate experience would be an asset
Title: Corporate Accountant (*1 Year Contract*)
Reports To: Senior Manager, Finance & Accounting
Position Summary: The Corporate Accountant position is mainly responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the accounting records of CAPREIT's Corporate Accounting division which includes general accounting, budgeting and forecasting. This position will work closely with the members of the corporate accounting team as well as other various stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Tax & Treasury, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Investments, Operations, etc.) to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounting records.
