      Team Description

      Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) Market Risk Management is an independent risk group, reporting to the firm’s Chief Risk Officer, which identifies, measures, monitors and controls the financial risks related to movements in market prices. The organization serves as the key interface for discussing risk issues on a respective trading portfolio with the trading desks.

      CIB Market Risk coverage performs the following primary functions:

      • Quantification of the risk of a potential loss of value in assets and liabilities due to changes in market variables, e.g. commodity, FX, interest rates, and equity prices.
      • Ongoing monitoring and control of a business unit’s exposure to market risk through risk limits.
      • Performance of stress testing and qualitative risk assessments of a business unit’s trading portfolio.
      • Facilitation of efficient risk-return decisions.
      • Regular dialogue with the trading businesses with respect to risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions

      Job Summary

      We are seeking an Executive Director to join our Global Commodities Group (GCG) Coverage team based in Houston. This role will focus on North America gas business (such as Natural Gas, Power, and Environmental), as well as Precious Metals, and Agricultural products with opportunities to contribute to the wider GCG team agenda.

      You will manage the team covering North America gas, Precious Metals and Agricultural desks; the team’s responsibilities include utilizing a wide variety of trading analysis tools to monitor risk exposures and understand the factors that affect the profits and loss affecting the trading portfolio. You will further strengthen Market Risk footprint in Houston office, building strong relationships with all functions which operate at this location, including front office, QR, Technology and operations.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Build out enhanced risk monitoring framework, sufficient to effectively monitor and constrain the expanding business footprint
      • Review complex transactions associated with coverage areas, challenging the trading business to ensure appropriate constraints/controls in place
      • Challenge themselves to be innovative in looking for threats and weaknesses in the risk profile and expected to be pro-active in bringing these to the attention of the trading business and the Market Risk management team
      • Assist in limit escalations and monitor key control processes
      • Perform scenario analysis and stress testing
      • Conduct ad-hoc and regular risk analysis as well as deep dive into various risk themes and clearly communicate findings
      • Coordinate various groups to improve transparency and infrastructure for capturing and monitoring risk exposures

      Required Qualifications, Skills and Capabilities

      • Strong academic background with a minimum Bachelor's Degree
      • 7+ years of experience in gas and power either through trading or Market Risk
      • Lateral thinker, tenacious, commitment to getting things done and detail focused
      • Knowledge of Market Risk practices such stress testing, scenario analysis, VaR, risk sensitivities, limits an advantage
      • Ability to manage a team, with exceptional motivation, creativity and interpersonal skills
      • Ability to form constructive professional relationships with a wide variety of teams in the firm and excellent written and spoken communication skills
      • Understanding of computer programming languages and coding techniques such as Python an advantage
