- Develops and executes strategic communications plans and initiatives.
- Leads corporate media relations activities and manages DC’s public relations agency.
- Identifies opportunities to communicate DC’s relevance to its stakeholders and shareholder and tell the “DC Story,” with an emphasis on media relations engagement.
- Develops speaking engagement materials for senior management, including presentations, briefings, and speeches for the CEO.
- Interprets insights from research and shapes them into compelling and data-based communications materials and content.
- Manages the communication and distribution of research news and updates to industry partners.
- Proactively scans the environment and analyzes issues, identifies risks, solutions, and opportunities, and provides briefings and recommendations.
- Manages crisis communications plans, ensuring they are current and relevant.
- Supports communications initiatives and plans as needed.
- 5+ years of strategic corporate communications and/or public relations experience
- Strong experience in media relations and engagement
- Experience writing and developing complex communications content
- Experience engaging with researchers and data analysts, and/or working with institutions or think tanks in the field of research and analysis is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate communications and PR practices, principles and techniques
- Advanced knowledge of media landscape and media engagement strategies
- Knowledge of issues management and crisis communications practices
- Knowledge of stakeholder management and engagement techniques
- Solid understanding of latest AI tools and their application in communications
- Knowledge of federal government and Crown corporation communications practices and context is an asset
- Outstanding writing and editing skills with ability to distil complex research and data into meaningful communications content
- Excellent interpersonal skills - able to work with all levels of the organization and feel comfortable working directly with senior leaders.

Destination Canada is looking for a Corporate Communications Strategist , to join our team in Vancouver or Ottawa as we inspire travellers to explore Canada.
As a key member of the Corporate Communications team, and working closely with the Senior Director, Corporate Communications & Outreach, you will be responsible for increasing the visibility and reputation of the organisation and its leaders through the creation of strategic external communications, with an emphasis on media engagement. This will include developing and executing strategic earned media relations plans, as well as leading and managing our public relations agency.
You have outstanding writing skills and the ability to distill research-findings, data, and industry insights into engaging media relations campaigns and industry content that tells our organization’s story. This role includes the development of compelling, data-driven content for inclusion in presentations, articles, various briefings, and other communications materials for Destination Canada’s senior management.
You will be the organization’s lead when it comes to developing and distributing effective communications informed by our data and analytics team. This will include driving engagement, support and awareness from key audiences, including media, and managing the timely distribution of research news and updates to industry partners.

Essential Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduation from a recognized university in Communications or Public Relations, or an acceptable and proven combination of education, training and experience.
