- Develop and implement an organization-wide security strategy tailored to healthcare-specific risks and regulations in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the security leadership team, fostering a culture of safety and security awareness.
- Establish and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance across the organization.
- Oversee the design and implementation of physical security measures, including access control, surveillance systems, and security personnel deployment.
- Conduct security assessments and recommend
- improvements to safeguard healthcare facilities and assets. Oversees environmental surveillance tours as required by TJC to identify environmental deficiencies, hazards, and unsafe practices throughout the organization.
- Implement measures to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and healthcare staff within the facilities.
- Develop and maintain emergency response and evacuation plans, including training and drills.
- Oversees and manages investigations of accidents/incidents, ensures that they are properly reported, and ensures that all contributory factors are identified and addressed.
- Collaborate with the IT department to ensure the protection of electronic health records (EHRs), patient data, and other sensitive medical information.
- Develop and maintain crisis management and emergency response plans specific to healthcare situations.
- Lead crisis management teams in response to incidents, including medical emergencies, security breaches, and other healthcare-related crises.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, law enforcement, emergency services, and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Conduct safety and security awareness and training programs for healthcare staff to ensure compliance with security policies and best practices.
- Promote a culture of security within the healthcare organization.
- Ensure the interpretation and strict compliance with healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA, HITECH Act, NFPA, TJC, ADA, DOH, DNR, DHR, DOT and state-specific healthcare laws. Coordinate, participate in and analyze healthcare security audits and assessments.
- Develop and manage the security budget, including resource allocation for security technologies, personnel, and training.
- Evaluate the security posture of third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers.
- Establish and maintain vendor security assessment processes for healthcare-specific needs.
- Provide regular security updates and reports to executive management, healthcare providers, and regulatory bodies.
- Communicate security incidents, risks, and mitigation strategies effectively, including breach notifications when necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- A minimum of 10years of security healthcare leadership experience.
- Certification in relevant industry certifications such as CHPA (Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator), CPP (Certified Protection Professional), or CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).
- Experience with security frameworks and standards applicable to healthcare (e.g., NIST SP 800-66, CMS regulations).
- Experience with activating the NIMS and ICC protocols in a healthcare setting.
- Extensive knowledge of Joint Commission standards.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare safety procedures, security principles, technologies, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with maintaining budgets and vendor contracts.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of emerging healthcare security threats and trends.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external agencies.
Description
The Corporate Director of Security is responsible for developing, implementing managing a comprehensive safety and security program that ensures safety and protection of patients, staff, visitors, sensitive assets, and physical facilities.
This role includes overseeing security personnel and associated training, evaluating and implementing security measures, and collaborating with various departments to ensure system-wide regulatory compliance with applicable hospital standards and local, state, and federal regulations and codes. The position oversees the development of the Emergency management plans, coordinates and manages the health system's safety programs, including the management and implementation of those programs to ensure the safety of the system's physical environment for staff, faculty, patients, and visitors.
