- Four years of full-time work experience in one or more of the recognized building (e.g., carpentry, painting, plumbing/pipefitting, electrical and masonry) and mechanical/repair (e.g., air conditioning/ heating, auto mechanics, upholstery and welding) trades.
- A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in a recognized building and mechanical trade for each year of the required experience.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Furniture Upholsterer, Mason, Maintenance Repairer, Carpenter 1 or 2, Painter 1 or 2, Plumber 1 or 2, or Welder.
The Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW) in Mitchellville Iowa, is seeking a Correctional Trades Leader (CTL) with professional trade experience in any of the following areas: grounds maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, or other similarly related fields.
Job Duties:
CTLs perform journey level work in one or more of the established trades areas (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, air conditioning/heating, auto mechanics, welding, grounds maintenance etc.).
Actively demonstrate proficiencies in their trade specific area, as well as performs routine minor plumbing maintenance, repairs and installations as assigned, utilizing offender labor when applicable. Identify, assess and make repairs to the facility.
Demonstrate knowledge of practices, methods and processes and the usage of tools and equipment utilized in building and mechanical trades work to ensure instruction and work tasks comply with institutional, department, and statewide policies and procedures governing safety, security and sanitation.
Responsible for the supervision of offender workers - this includes training offender workers in the proper techniques of the jobs assigned, including safety standards required by OSHA, and ensuring Department of Corrections policies and procedures are adhered to.
