      Hiring Criteria:

      The position may be a paid position and/or for school credit. However, the candidate must currently be a student attending college/university.

      Education Requirements:

      • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student majoring in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

      License Requirements:

      • Current Colorado driver’s license class “R”, with a satisfactory driving record required.

      Pre-Employment Requirements:

      • A background check including education and criminal history.
      • Driving is required, we'll also request:
        • A motor vehicle background check.
        • A pre-placement clinic appointment which may include a physical, drug and alcohol test, strength test, and worker’s compensation background test.

      Summer Position:

      Full Time - 40 hours per week

      Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm (On-Site | Field)

      This intern position will be responsible for gathering, editing, and managing geospatial and asset data for the water system that delivers clean, quality drinking water to customers in the Denver metro area. This data is stored in Denver Water's Geographic Information System (GIS) and is used by Engineering, Operations and Maintenance, and other staff to inventory, develop, track and maintain water system assets for more than 3,000 miles of pipelines and related assets.

      Internship Project Description:

      This intern will join the Engineering division and will:

      • Locate Cathodic Protection (CP) test sites by using a tablet computer and GPS points.
      • Perform repairs to test sites by replacing broken or missing parts.
      • Paint test posts as required, which may include digging up and replacing splice wires and terminating wire ends with ring terminals as needed.
      • Keep records of repairs and items that might need to be ordered.
      • Drive a Denver Water vehicle as part of duties and performs related duties as assigned

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this intern project:

      • Attention to detail
      • Ability/desire to work independently or in a team
      • Good communications skills
      • Working knowledge of computers and/ or mapping applications (CAD, GIS, databases).
      • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical and engineering (CAD) drawings
      • Understanding of GIS and general mapping principles, map projections, coordinate systems
      • Ability to use, or learn to use, GPS equipment.
      • Ability to perform software applications using programs such as Word, Excel, and Adobe.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
      • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and other private and public sector organizations.

      During the Summer Intern Program, there are THREE (3) REQUIRED ATTENDANCE EVENTS. All interns must participate.

      Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay (if the employee worked for more than 20 days before the holiday) and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act .
