Monitors and assesses corrosion control efforts for assigned midstream assets. Performs cathodic protection surveys. Takes scheduled readings of monitoring devices. Reports findings.
Initiates remedial measures as necessary.
Maintains and performs repairs and preventative maintenance on corrosion control equipment.
Performs pipeline corrosion defect assessments.
Inspects and tests, with guidance, coating applications.
Maintains complete, accurate and regulatory-compliant documentation.
High school diploma or GED required
Must hold a valid Driver License with excellent driving record
Must be able to pass drug test and background check
Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends.
AMPP/NACE CP1 Cathodic Protection Tester certification
3 to 5 years of Corrosion related work experience
Corrosion Technician Job Tasks: knowledge of and ability to perform asset-specific preventative and predictive maintenance and routine testing to ensure asset integrity such as, but not limited to; Cathodic Protection Annual Survey, Atmospheric Corrosion Inspection, Close Interval Survey, Aboveground Coating Surveys, Rectifier and Groundbed troubleshooting, Remote Monitoring Unit troubleshooting and install, Wall Thickness measurements, and Test Lead attachment (Pin Braze or Exothermic Weld).
Corrosion Control Industry Standards: knowledge of and practical experience with industry standards for corrosion prevention and control from AMPP/NACE.
Corrosion Mechanisms: working knowledge of corrosion mechanisms affecting midstream assets. Recognizes impact of operational environment e.g. electrochemical reaction with air, soil, water, high temperatures, etc.
Corrosion Mitigation: Developing working knowledge of techniques used to reduce corrosion effects such as, but not limited to, anodic and cathodic protection, coatings and linings, inhibitors, material selection and design improvement.
Corrosion Regulations: knowledge of corrosion-related regulations governing midstream sector such as, but not limited to, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 192 Section I and 195 Section H.
Safety: Developing ability to recognize safety risks in operational activities and use appropriate measures to control and manage identified risks.
Safety Awareness: ability to recognize and identify potential hazards. Evaluates changes in work environment with respect to impact on safety of self and others. Understands potential threats created by deviation from safety procedures and improper use of tools and equipment. Uses personal protection equipment. Uses tools and equipment in compliance with manuals and training. Calls attention to potential and actual hazardous conditions as they arise. Demonstrates knowledge of lockout/tag out procedures. Stops work if there are unsafe working conditions.

The Corrosion Technician is responsible for all facets of field executed corrosion prevention duties including cathodic protection, internal corrosion control, atmospheric corrosion control, protective coating and linings, materials selection and design/project support. The area of responsibility for this position will be MPLX G&P’s West Texas Gas Region and Permian Crude Region. This position will be located in Midland, TX or Carlsbad, NM.
