Helena College University of Montana a comprehensive two-year college, provides access to and support of high quality lifelong educational opportunities for our diverse community. Helena College is seeking qualified applicants who wish to become part of a dynamic and creative team for 3 full-time positions as a Cosmetology Instructor.

Helena College is seeking 3 full-time, tenure track, Cosmetology instructors to teach in the newly established Cosmetology Program. Helena College is committed to building an inclusive and diverse campus community that fosters creativity, innovation, and student success. Faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing quality educational experiences and support for all Helena College students, in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies, and procedures of the College.

The Cosmetology program at Helena College is a 4-semester program scheduled to begin in January 2024, with courses offered Tuesday-Saturday. The program provides students the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree while preparing them to apply for their Cosmetologist license through the Montana State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. Students in the program will be prepared to work with all hair types and textures, better preparing them to serve a diverse community. New students will be accepted into the program in the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Cosmetology instructors will instruct, lead, mentor, and motivate students to achieve success, preparing them for their licensure exam and future career in the field. Instructors will teach both in the classroom and in the salon, which will be open to the Helena community. The three instructors will collaborate with each other and with the Division Director to ensure the program is meeting the requirements set forth by the Montana Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists while providing the highest quality education for the students. This is an excellent opportunity to help teach and guide the next generation of cosmetologists in Helena.

Instructors at Helena College are contracted to teach two of the three semesters each academic year (fall, spring, and summer), with one semester off-contract each year. Each instructor in the program will be contracted for two different semesters—one instructor for fall and spring, one instructor for spring and summer, and one instructor for summer and fall. The Cosmetology program will operate on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule so the salon services are available to the community on one weekend day each week.

Cosmetology instructors are required to have at least 5 years of experience working in the field, an active Cosmetology license with the State of Montana, and a Montana state Instructor License through the Montana Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. Applicants interested in this position without an instructor license are welcome to apply for these positions with the understanding that they will get their instructor license no later than July 30th, 2023. Applicants that do not already have an instructor license need to meet all license requirements set by the Montana State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. Additional training may be required and/or provided as well based on the instructors’ experience, particularly in cutting, coloring, and styling textured hair.
