      Description
      We are accepting applications on an ongoing basis for future consideration for part-time instructors in this discipline at any of our three colleges (Oxnard, Moorpark, and Ventura). Applications submitted to this pool will be kept on file for the Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026 semesters and may be considered if a vacancy becomes available within the academic year. If you have applied to previous pools in this discipline, you will need to apply to this new pool to continue to be considered.
      WHAT YOU'LL DO
      Under the general supervision of a dean, a Counselor (Non-Contract/Temporary) provides comprehensive counseling, career guidance, and advisement services to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of developing and facilitating the attainment of their academic, vocational, and personal objectives. In accordance with Education Code sections 87482.5, Counselors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

      Representative Duties
      Provide comprehensive academic, personal, and vocational counseling; assist students in developing educational plans and college skills; foster academic success and retention; assist in course and program selection.
      Refer students to support services, monitor academic progress, and counsel students on academic probation.
      Develop individual employment and career plans; identify skill training needs and opportunities.
      Counsel students on career choices, goal setting, and decision-making; provide information on college matriculation and transfer processes.
      Assist in outreach activities to recruit and enroll students; conduct orientation events to familiarize students with college resources and procedures.
      Maintain records of counseling sessions; compile data and prepare reports; assist in developing counseling publications and workshops.
      Advocate for students with special needs; collaborate with campus and community resources; develop access and retention programs.
      Provide work direction to others and perform related duties as assigned.
      Minimum Qualifications
      Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, detailed in the provided link.
      For service as a community college counselor of students with disabilities, meet one of the following:
      (1) Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling;
      (2) Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related fields, AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), AND coursework or experience related to disabilities.
      All coursework must be from an accredited institution. If degrees are outside the U.S., include foreign transcript evaluations.
      Candidates may demonstrate equivalent qualifications through education, experience, and accomplishments, reviewed via the supplemental questionnaire.

      Salary and benefits are governed by union contract and district policies. Starting salaries depend on education and experience.
