However, there are about 5,000 independently owned and operated NAPA AUTO PARTS Stores where individual store owners are the employer. This position is through an independently owned and operated store – NAPA of Port Huron.As a locally owned and operated auto and heavy duty parts store, NAPA of Port Huron and its predecessor – Modern Motors, has been serving the Port Huron area for over 67 years. We take great pride in the parts we sell, the people we employee, and the customers we serve.

NAPA of Port Huron has an immediate opening for a full time Parts Counter Salesperson Trainee.Qualifications
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
The Counter Salesperson Trainee’s primary function is to drive retail and wholesale sales through providing prompt and courteous service to retail and wholesale customers. This service includes greeting the customer, assisting the customer with the identification of the correct parts and products desired by the customer, utilizing the TAMS computer system to locate the parts and products, and completing the sales cycle by processing the credit or cash used to pay for the transaction. The following primary responsibilities are essential:
• Able to establish and maintain good relations with fellow employees and customers by providing courteous, efficient and professional service.
• Find the correct parts application in either the published NAPA catalogs or the TAMS computer catalog
• Demonstrate understanding of products and their application
• Determine customer’s needs
• Describe product features and their benefits to the customer
• Follow prescribed accounting practices and maintain a balanced cash drawer
• Obtain parts not on hand by ordering parts
• Properly receive and store merchandise
• Keep both the stock room and store sales area clean, uncluttered and maintained
• Provide DIY services including battery installation, testing, wiper installs and headlight / taillight installs.ADDITIONALLY, YOU WILL:
• Process returns of merchandise and cores to suppliers
• Properly process paperwork and forms generated by the store and our customers
• Effectively communicate NAPA Promotions, product knowledge, features, warranties and benefits
• Adhere to all security policies and safety rules including the handling of hazardous materials
• Support the outside sales person by processing online and phone-in parts orders.
• Participate in training and perform all other associated duties as assigned by managementESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:
• Two year’s minimum retail experience required.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the workings of automotive, heavy duty truck and marine systems
• A positive, friendly attitude and exceptional customer service skills
• Maintain good attendance and arrive to work for each shift in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills in a professional manner
• Speak and write English; communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and upper management
• Capable of operating TAMS point-of sale system and cataloging
• Capable of lifting and moving merchandise of up to 45 pounds
• Able to move engine blocks, core barrels, and other heavy equipment using moving aids designed to move such items, including hand trucks, barrel dollies, hydraulic lifts, etc.
• Able to bend or stoop to floor-level shelves and be able to reach upper shelves (eight feet) with use of stool or ladder when necessary.PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
You must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to meet business needs. This includes evenings and weekends in a retail setting. This position requires a pre-employment background check.
• Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Visually capable of recognizing and distinguishing letters and numbers with the ability to remember their sequencing.
• Able to speak clearly and listen attentively.
• Able to work on feet for entire assigned work shift.
• Capable of lifting and moving parts and boxes up to 70 lbs.
• Able to repeatedly bend and stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves (8 ft) with use of stool or ladder when necessary.
• Able to move engine blocks, core barrels, and other heavy items with moving aidsWORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually working inside; however, they will occasionally be outside and exposed to various weather conditions while performing such tasks as installing batteries and wiper blades. The employee is also occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration.
