      BLOOD BORNE VIRUS NURSES

      COUNTYWIDE HIV CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST - BAND 7

      FULL TIME 37.5 hrs per week

      PERMANENT POST

      An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full-time band 7 clinical nurse specialist in HIV. We are seeking an enthusiastic nurse who is innovative, enthusiastic and passionate about HIV

      You will be joining well established ID service with 2 ID consultants, a hepatologist, ID registrar, ID pharmacist, HIV CNS's, Hepatitis CNS and Healthcare Assistants.

      We have cross county nurse led and multidisciplinary clinics and part of your role will be to do a one day a week clinic at Hereford hospital on a Friday.

      We support educational work at the University of Worcester, where there is a flourishing nursing programme and foster close links with the community drug services and GPs. There is also a local fibroscan service.

      This post comes at a particularly exciting time in the field of HIV with the new introduction of injectable treatments. We are closely linked via a regional network to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

      Main duties of the job

      • Initiate, implement and manage nurse led clinics within the Acute Trust setting.
      • Deliver highly specialised care to patients receiving treatment for HIV.
      • Working in partnership with Clinical Governance, develop protocols and guidelines.
      • Maintain HIV database.
      • Initiate audit/research.
      • Formulate education programmes for teaching purposes.
      • Monthly participation in MDT based in Worcester.
      • Close collaboration with Worcester-based HIV CNSs

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      • Initiate, implement and manage nurse led clinics within the Acute Trust setting.

      • Effectively manage a highly complex clinical caseload, prioritizing needs and ensuring that a quality service is provided. Planning and implementing care for patients undergoing assessment and treatment of HIV.
      • Act as an independent and supplementary prescriber within own area of expertise.
      • Work as a member of the multi-professional team at appropriate consultant clinics, providing specialist advice and support.
      • To practice autonomously within nurse-led clinics delivering highly specialised care across acute and community setting. This will include:
        • Providing information regarding treatment and side effects.
        • Teaching patients injection techniques.
        • Monitoring treatment and side effect management
        • Maintaining a support network for the patients.
        • Providing a phlebotomy service.
        • Analysing highly complex blood results to assess complications of HIV and how treatment is affecting patients and liaising with medical colleagues, when appropriate.
        • Provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information and discussing this information with the patient, maintaining the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Providing specialist advice and support to clients and staff.
      • Act as the patient advocate, assessing suitability for treatment and working with the patient to achieve this goal.
      • When appropriate, liaise with other health care professionals, within the acute and community setting, to ensure that the patient receives a seamless service.
